Anybody else catch Jay Bilas' backhanded comments about the Shocks while congratulating Calhoun after beating Michigan St.?
Basically said that UCONN looked soooo young versus Wichita St., but that they really grew up in a day to play against superpower Spartans.
I'm not even sure what that means, but in watching both games pretty closely, it was apparent that UCONN played the exact same style against both oppenents.
Bilas is missing out on his own eye test.

Katz never said that beating SDSU was a must win for an at-large, he just said what we have all said, which is that losing to UConn severely cuts back our opportunities to play NCAA caliber teams."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

What's the problem here? The article is right, we did not take care of business and our remaining non-con schedule and particularly Valley play will not do us any more favors. It appears that we will have to be one of those mid-major programs (barring an automatic bid) who has 4-6 losses at season's end to get a chance.

I just don't like the idea that losing one game for a mid major can completely eliminate you from consideration but if UCONN were to lose to us it's not a big deal.
I heard the announcers at our UCONN game minimizing the impact of our potential win against UCONN while we were up by nine saying this would not be an upset, this would not be an upset. So it was sort of a lose / lose proposition. If we win, no big deal. If we lose, even by a close margin it proves we don't belong in the tournament in their minds.
I thought last year we had a solid performance beating two ranked teams and finishing second in a league where the number one team beat KU on a neutral court. We are going to have to do better than a solid season to get an invite or just win the conference tournament.

Here is the deal...there are some minor stretches, but stay with me.
We beat Virginia, thus a 3-1 noncon record.
We have 8 more noncon games, including BB at home.
I'm assuming no stumbles at home. The two noncons on the road are @ SDSU, @ LSU (Bossier City). Although we all would like to win both, realistically we win one...more than likely LSU. Noncon record 12-2. If not ranked in top-25, pretty close.
Go 14-4, or 15-3 in conference. Losses probably at Creighton, UNI, MSU, ???. Again, more than likely our record throughout conference will teeter us right around consideration in top-25, or at least in the discussion. Record would be 26-6 or 27-5 going into STL.
In STL, we get to final and LOSE...Record 28-7, or 29-6. Again, considered right around top-25. Not even if there were 10 Jay Bilas' on the selection committee, you can't not put us on the dance floor.
There are certainly alot of assumptions, but that's why we play this fan board game, huh!!!
