Who is going to be the starting 4 man next year? It will have to be a JUCO transfer. I don't think he should redshirt, but it is not a terrible idea.

He is limited on the offensive end no doubt. But to say Hamilton deserves AE's minutes is stretching things IMO. Hamilton will not be a factor at all during his stay at WSU unless he improves dramatically or there is something I am missing. I hope I am wrong, but he is at least 2-3 inches shorter than Aaron and not as quick from what I can see. JH will always be an undersized 4 man. If this team is going to be a the level we all want it to be, having AE instead of freshman next year would help next year's team. Does it hurt the following year, yes it might because that scholarship could be given to an incoming freshmen that would be a sophomore in 2012.

The final decision definitely will be made by Coach Marshall and Aaron. It might just depend on who the last scholarship is given to this fall. If it not someone that will start next year, it might pay off for Aaron to stick around another year.

Feel free to disagree with me, but that is my $.02
Why do you say Hamilton will be a non-factor next year? I haven't seen him play, so I have no input on it, but that was not what I would expect.

I have seen him scrimmage a few times. His talent may come out over time, but it is just not there yet. His size will limit him from being a very effective 4 man. If you look at his height compared to the other guys, he is closer to 6'6" than 6'7". I do think he has some leaping ability. I also think he can hit an unguarded outside shot.

However, I don't think he will prove to be a player that will be counted on to score or to be a factor in the offense. Probably better suited to be a 3 man, but I don't think that will happen the way Coach likes to play his wings.

My point is, he is not an upgrade to Aaron.

You owe me $.02...just kidding. It is still a TERRIBLE idea. Durley is 2 inches shorter than AE...who would you want at the 4? Remember how squirrelly Durley was as a freshman & sophomore? Many thought he would be a non-factor. "How do we like him now?" I don't know how Hamilton will pan out, but the talk I hear is that he is a remarkable athlete, who plays above the rim. I will take my chances on him next year vs. WASTING a RS on AE. My guess is HCGM will look long and hard at the early practices and the exhibition(s) to see if Hamilton's upside as a R-freshman is worthy of AE's minutes. :goshocks:

I don't think its a terrible idea to redshirt Aaron, but, I don't think it will happen and I strongly believe that Aaron will play a significant role in the success of the team this year.

            Define significant?

Significant means he will contribute enough throughout the season including enough at crucial times that we will look back and say we definitely needed Aaron this year. If we are going to be as successful this year as many of us are expecting, it is going to require contributions from 10 or 12 players.

You must remember that Durley is about 2 inches taller and about 20-25 pounds heavier than Hamilton. And JT is a force to be reckon with down low when he is into the game and wants to play. Maybe JH will get that kind of attitude and progress enough to be a solid 4, I don't know.

You technically can't waste a redshirt year. Either Ellis stays for 2 years to provide some leadership and mentoring with more minutes next year or you get him out of here and a JUCO starts instead. I would rather take the first option, but it is ultimately up to Ellis and the input from Marshall. After all, he is a senior and should have some say in this.

Jake White will challenge to be the starting 4 next year, mark my words. He has a 'Hatch' attitude and never quits. Not the most athletic, but has good Basketball IQ and court vision, and is effective, and is 6'7" tall right now.

With Hamilton and White, I will be much more concerned about their basketball IQ and lack of D-I playing experience than I will be about their size and athleticism.

Over the last 10 or so years, our experience with big PFs is very recent. Yet we've had some very succesful teams prior to then. Sometimes, even when the teams were not as successful, we had some very good "undersized" big men.

You must have seen a lot of Jake White games to be able to summarize his attitude and skill set so succintly. How long have you lived in the St. Paul metro?

If you follow recruiting at all those things have been said about him many times. We'll never know until we see it, but a lot of people think pretty highly of him and he's a great pickup for the Shox.

Again, I'm absolutely FINE going into next year with Hamilton and White battling it out to be our starting PFs. Hamilton is an amazing athlete with a motor to match. I hope he sees a little action this year to help prepare him for more significant time next season.

Duley might have some weight on Hamilton, but Hamilton is ripped, he is a physical specimen with a lot of athletic ablitity. What he lacks in height and weight he makes up for in jumping ability and strength.
