  • 2006 was a perfect storm. Not only for us, but the league as well. In '06 the last place team in the Valley had one out of conference loss and a victory vs a top 25 team. On top of that a couple of our "cup cakes" that year turned out to be quite good. Northwestern St. beat Iowa in the first round, Delaware St. lost 3 games in conference.

I know it is easier said then done, cup cakes will be on the schedule, but a key in my opinion is to find teams that are likely to do well at least in their conference. Hopefully that is what the coaching staff tried to do.

Q: I see that there is one exhibition game again this year. Since K-State backed out at practically the last minute, do we know who the Shox are going to scrimmage?

Answered 09/23/10 17:37:35 by Paul Suellentrop

A: WSU is still looking for a scrimmage opponent. Or it could schedule another exhibition.
My guess is it is too late to find a scrimmage opponent as pretty much everyone has released their schedule and they either a) already have a scrimmage opponent or b) they already have 2 exhibitions scheduled. I bet we schedule another exhibition.
So much for the friendship between Marshall and Martin.

If Martin canceled the scrimmage too late for Marshall to find another opponent, and Marshall prefers a scrimmage to an exhibition, then I think that potential "friendly" relationship isn't real "friendly" right now.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

      • I was positive the scrimmage arrangement with the Cats was going to evolve into a home-and-home, or better yet an IBA-Sprint deal. Now I have no idea. But this is BS. KU can put their noses in the air and pretend their farts don't stink, but KSU should be on this schedule!

          • From Sully's Shockwaves Blog today:

I had a short conversation with Darron Boatright, WSU’s new senior associate athletic director. In one of his previous stops, he served as director of basketball operations at Alabama (1998-2005) and handled its scheduling. He has some good strategies on scheduling and I would think he be a useful person for that task in the future.
            Time will tell.

            • Just noticed there are no Saturday home games until January 22. Interesting.

Yeah I did. You really have to wonder what was going on in their thinking. The two biggest changes I saw on the schedule was:

                a. Wednesday scheduling - in the past they tried to avoid, this year it looks like they targeted it.

                b. Weekend scheduling - last year over 60% of the home games were on the weekend, this year only 33%.

I cannot see how these two changes will have a positive effect on the WSU bottomline and actually getting butts in seat.

                • Haven't we normally played a lot of Wednesday games? I know they would prefer not to play on Tuesday nights which makes Wednesday a lot more attractive.

Historically after Saturday, Tuesdays and Wednesday are the most popular. In fact it looks like this year they have moved games from Saturday to Tuesday and Wednesdays.

                    • Would ShockerRocker and Amaizn please break up into paragraphs that are easier to read. It becomes too difficult to follow when everything is long and in just one paragraph. Thank you.

                        Sure.

                        No problem.

                        I'd be glad to.
