WSU is considered the 'new kid' on the block in the state of Kansas. We're an upstart, so to speak, a red headed stepchild in the world of basketball, and that is not going to change anytime soon. There is no sense in perpetuating that sterotype on a daily basis on here.

I'd like the list of names of educated individuals who considers WSU a "new kid, upstart, red headed stepchild in the world of basketball." I'd like to ask where in the hell did you get this absolutely absurd thought from? If by "new kid" and "upstart" you mean an institution that was founded 30 years after the University of Kansas in 1895, then I guess you are correct. If by getting to the Final Four and being ranked No.1 in the 60's means we are an upstart red-headed stepchild, then I guess you are correct. I guess at the end you try and save some face and acknowledge that your above statement was indeed a "sterotype", but then add it isn't going to change anytime soon. It is a bit complex on how you explained it. If you meant the dumbed down KU and KSU fans are never gonna get over this fallacy, then yes you are right. If 99 times out of 100, KU will beat WSU, then why not play? Will the loss sting more than a Nevada, Oral Roberts, or Richmond at home? Did those losses all cause KU to sink into the basketball graveyard? And that's assuming the vastly inferior WSU would go into Lawrence and win the game. What does KU have to lose that it didn't in games to Oral Roberts and Richmond? How would their rank and position in the state be risked if it's a sure-fire win? How would the risk be any different of a Summit League school from Tulsa or an A-10 school from Richmond? Maybe perhaps THEY SHOULD GET OVER IT.

Bradley in 2006, a close SIU loss in 2007, and a UNI beatdown of the nation's No.1 team in 2010 may mean the top of the Valley is closer to KU's superior status than most want to admit. That's 3 times in 5 years the Valley has more than held their own. Yeah, one time might be a coincidence. But the three in the last five years is a trend. And this isn't even mentioning WSU's record against KU in the NCAA Tournament. I wouldn't call it a walk in the park for KU and perhaps that is why the fear factor is there for them and is an excuse kept tucked back into the back of their heads for why there has been no hookups in over 17 years.

I'm not even gonna entertain the idea with Kansas State. You can go back as recently as our last series with them in the late 90's and early 2000's to know we aren't below their pillar. They were below us for a fair amount in the mid-2000's. They have finally hit their peak as of now and so wouldn't this make the most sense to play us? When they appear to have the upper hand? Generally speaking, the conference we have aligned ourselves with has been gaining RESPECT... especially in RESPECT to recent NCAA games against Kansas. KU is a couple points away from being 0-3 against the Valley in the elite events of all events - the NCAA Tournament - in the last 5 years. What more do you EFFING want? In regard to WSU, I think we have done our fair share of turning this program around from the dark days of the 1990's. I'm pretty sure most college basketball gurus out there would consider us to be a pretty decent program in the last few years. We have done our share of winning, even reaching the Sweet 16 in 06 and what did that give us the following year? Well, we had a chance to play KU in Lawrence in a one-and-done deal on national tv and guess who turned that down? YUP. If getting to the Sweet 16 is not enough respect, then nothing will satisfy you or those clowns. If there was a time to prove your theory right, that would have been it.. but guess what? It DIDN'T happen.

And one other thing, you can't gain respect if you don't play. The table has been laid out several times for some very generous offers to the schools to the north. And each and every time that respect is thrown out the window. How the hell do you expect to get respect if you're treated like pondscum from the onset?

We have to EARN that respect... period. What have we done lately to earn it? Sure, we went 25-10 last year, and I wanted us in the Big Dance as much as anyone, but we ended up letting one player from Nevada beat us in the NIT in the FIRST GAME, a dismal failure in my eyes. This has already been summarized in the last paragraphs. What will it take oh wise one to EARN that respect? Going 30-0 and winning a National Championship? You lay it out for me. The "lose-lose" scenarios the opposition constantly parades around is an old, tired, and faulty argument. It's simply about 3 in-state institutions playing the game of basketball. And for one of the schools, it's pretty much on their terms, however they want it. But yet, it still isn't enough. How could you not say it's fear? It really comes down to "why not"?
