Wildcats in Wichita? —Currie wants to bring the K-State basketball team to Intrust Bank Arena for a neutral-court game.
He said the Wildcats tried to move their game against UNLV from Kansas City's Sprint Center to Wichita this season, but the two programs couldn't agree on a date.
K-State owes Alabama a neutral-court game, but Currie said the Wildcats are already scheduled to play the Crimson Tide during the 2011-12 season in the Sprint Center.
"We are actively working on another significant, name opponent for Wichita," Currie said. "We're starting the process of figuring out dates. We very much want to play a Kansas State basketball game in Intrust Arena. It makes sense."
    As early as 2011?
    "That's our goal," Currie said.

Guess "significant, name opponent" rules out the WheatShockers?

    Cue ShockerFever rant in 3, 2, 1......

I can only think of one reason why ksu won't play an inferior midmajor team on a neutral court. ksu would lose. Positives would be: A sold out arena. Lots of media coverage. A good rpi boost for both teams.
Marge: The plant called and said that if you don't come in tomorrow, don't bother coming in Monday.
    Homer: WOOHOO! Four day weekend.

Not a big fan of the kittens, but I do like their coach. I don't think he'd have an issue playing the Shox at Intrust and contrary to BSCCat's input, he knows the Shox own Wichita and the game/opponent would indeed be significant.
          Let's hope it happens...

Where's the smiley with the German flag??? This isn't exactly new news... it was first mentioned here several months ago that the UNLV or Alabama, among other games could be played at IBA with no mention of WSU. Although for some reason many of our posters jumped to the conclusion that KSU would be playing us if they came to IBA.

Rehashing the same subject that's already been discussed by starting a new thread with the distinct purpose of pushing buttons would group you under the status of "Troll".

Here's the thread if you're interested.

I mean, it was only mentioned 4 1/2 months ago, but I guess news travels slow in KSU country...?

As long as KSU isn't playing WSU at Intrust, I'm all in favor of scheduling lots of tractor pulls, rhythmic gymnastics competitions, and other "hot" features to keep the building booked during basketball season.

The main reason KSU wants a game in Wichita is for recruiting Perry Ellis. That's why they will never play WSU at Intrust. After they got their butts handed to them, they'd have to resort to "Perry, you can go to KSU and be a star or go to WSU and sit on the bench waiting for your turn to break into the lineup".
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I don't like KSU using the arena if they aren't going to play WSU. Stay out of our city if you don't have the balls to play the Shox!

Yeah, this is old news. News does travel slow in Aggieland and apparently certain posters don't retain information well. Must be the long harvest nights in June that did him in.

K-State wants to use Wichita as a "neutral" home game. Playing against WSU would not fit that.

Not to hijack this thread and change the topic some...well ok maybe I AM trying to do that... :D

How does everyone feel about the Tulsa game possibly being in the IBA? I'm torn a little bit. On one hand I want to see the Shox play there. But on the other hand I would want it to be against a team that would draw a better crowd. I'm just not sure Tulsa fits that bill. Perhaps if the rivalry can be renewed some it would be decent. Right now I'm just not sure how much of a rivalry is truely left. I'm just afraid it's gonna be somewhat empty and quiet compared to Koch Arena. I don't know if it will have the same "electricity" we are used to if this should happen.

I say wait and play there until we can play an opponent who will attract more people.

I'm one of the people who are not in any rush to play at IBA. The only way I'd consider it, is if the game counts as "neutral" and it's the only way a "big" team will play us in Wichita.

If they wanna play a game at IBA this year, Tulsa would be the highest attended one. They will clearly be the highlight of the home non-conference schedule.
