Deer Slayer and I watched the Shockers play today.
1. Everyone was there except Gabe Blair.
2. In the first 2-3 games, Demetric and Joe played together. They were fun to watch. Joe deferred to Demetric in play. Demetric took far more shots than Joe did. Later, they played on opposite teams.
Though I should not be, I am still amazed how fast Demetric can push the ball. I wonder what his 40 time is. Joe made some great NBA type passes. He made one skip pass to Demetric that was a big time wow.
Also, Joe has a very high dribble hesitation move, which is fun to watch. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it before.
3. The guards are so athletic, it will be a strong point next season. They were playing race horse basketball today and it was fun to watch.
4. During the first, say 5-6 games, most all of the outside shooters were shooting very well. I could not hardly belive my eyes. Tyler and David were scorching and Ben was not far behind.
In the last two games, the 3 ball shot percentage fell like a rock. I think the players were tired.
5. With trepidation, I will mention E.O. While I was there, he played in 3-4 games. In the first 2-3 games, his play was much like my last fine report. I was so disappointed that I made a note to myself to not mention him in this fine report of today. I did not want to set off a controversy.
In his last game, EO suddenly came alive and I could hardly believe my eyes. He started rebounding and defending with much greater energy and intensity. He even made a 4' hook shot. He stole the ball and dribbled the length of the floor and jammed in down. I was stunned.
Please do not read too much into the preceding paragraph. I am just saying that his play late was much better than earlier. I am not saying he is an accomplished player because he is not.
My greatest irritant with E.O. is his attitude. He gets beat, he smiles. A rebound is snatched away from him, he smiles. He misses a 1' jump shot, he smiles. I realize it may be some kind of mechanism to cover for his play, but I don't like it. If he had a little Ryan Martin or Ramon Clemente attitude in him, I would be pleased.
6. The way David plays in pick up games is so much more aggressive and effective than the way he plays in regulation games. He is something. He has the tools to be very special. I hope this is a break out year for him.
7. J.T. continues his 3 ball fest. I wonder, if Coach Marshall has asked him to work on his 3 shot in the off season. Also, J.T. is driving the ball often. He is either shooting a 3 or driving and he isn't doing much passing.
8. Graham, Toure, David and Jerome are on the Shocker All-Pec team.
9. The Shockers 400 meter relay team is comprised of Jerome, Toure, David and Demetric. Demetric is the anchor. I might be amiss for leaving Joe off the team.
10. I was really impressed with Tyler today. He shot very well and he drove well. As I said before, I think he will be a fine player for us.
Of course, I thought the white kid from Arkansas, who was here for one year, was going to be a fine player for us. I cannot remember his name. He was an all state player in Arkansas.
11. Cold Blooded showed up. He told me to tell everyone hello.
