The big 12 is in denial. At 2:30 pm this afternoon on their BIG 12 Showcase tv show on Fox Sports KC they were saying that UNL isn't leaving.
They said everyone should calm down it is all a bunch of rumors. They said the next big 12 TV package will be in the ball park of the other BCS conferences. They said it would be stupid for UNL to associate with the rust belt which is losing population instead of the sun belt which is growing.
They said Texas was committed to keeping the big 12 together and they didn't even mention Colorado.
I assume this show must have been taped before CU left for the PAC 10.
It is really sad watching them spin. It reminded me of watching Bagdad Bob say that Bagdad wasn't under attack as you could hear and see the bombs landing in the background or the BP spinmeisters say the oil spill is no big deal were only leaking 1000 barrels of oil a day (now it is up to 40,000 a day).

It was interesting on kgso this am stan weber (ksu) said he was amazed that the big 12 was just reacting to the situation rather than being proactive. He thought the big 12 should extend offers to az, asu, ucla, cal, usc and stanford for a 16 team conference. The state of texas should equal the markets of washington and oregon and I have to admit it would be more athletic than the current pac 10 group which would now include colorado. You have got to give the man credit in thinking big and outside the box.

There's been some discussion of Title IX in this thread. An interesting thought just occurred to me.
If the Power 64 want to break away from the NCAA and allow payment to athletes - they will have to pay female athletes the same total amount as they pay male athletes.
Pro women's softball at the college level - how about that? Actually I just brought all this up so I'd have an excuse to post a picture of a femal athlete deserving of a scholarship. Jenny Finch was good enough that she was a legitimate softball pro. With all her softball talents, I don't understand why this is the most popular picture of her on the Internet.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Reports indicate final team in PAC 16 will be aTm or Kansas. Oregon live.
Nebraska's move to the Big Ten appears to bring the Big 12's demise, with Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State set to join the Pac-10, multiple sources say.
"Only the potential final team in a "Pac-16," remained in flux as Texas A&M considered its options. The Aggies may not have much time, however. Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott was en route from Colorado to the states of Texas and Oklahoma with invitations in hand, a source familiar with the process confirmed.
If the Aggies cannot commit, the Pac-10 is prepared to invite Kansas and its great basketball Tradition, sources say. While the Jayhawks are desperate to find a landing spot, they would have to leave in-state rival Kansas State, a potential political problem."

They are jumping the gun. Texas won't announce anything until Tuesday.
Texas is a big boy in the Big12. In the Pac16 they would be just one of the boys, and not have the clout like they do now. Also their idea of their own Texas TV would be down the drain.
I think it is more a possibility for the Big12 to add TCU and Houston (or UTEP), or they could get wild and add 6 total teams to be the Big16. Wouldn't that be a kick back at them????

I really think Texas wants the West Coast TV market available to them. They've already got and will always have the Texas market. Give the West Coast a reason to watch Texas football and they probably think they can become the college equivalent of the Cowboys.
There's a lot more money in that than there is in setting up a Texas network. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

If A&M goes to the SEC and the others go to the PAC 16 it will really carve up the Texas market.
You would have both leagues fighting for TV time in the lone star state.
It sounds like it does leave an opening for KU to get into the PAC 16 south, if they are interested and willing to dump Kstate.
