I read the story and see that there were crooked employees and crooked father. What I don't see is some KU conspiracy to use this as a way to get an advantage (e.g. giving tickets to student-athletes so they can sell, or giving them to recruits saying if you contact so and so he can turn this into some money, etc).

It would not suprise me to see this type of thing happening at all BCS colleges. All this proves is if people think they can make big money then they will do regardless of the laws.

Whats the old analogy about something happening and Wichita State will be placed on probation.

I only bring that up because someone mentioned it on another message board awhile back.

          SB Shock,

I can't tell if you are serious or not,

the problem comes if AAU coaches are paid to get their players to come to KU. The other issue would be if those AAU coaches also paid the player money from KU paid to the coach. If the coach or the coach and the player received money and a player went to KU, like 9 players did, that could or should be illegal.

I agree those would be serious allegations. But in the story I got this was more about some guys maninupulating the system for their gain and not KU's.

All I see is KU gets a minor slap on the wrist unless there is alot more than was published in this story.

I'd be willing to lay 2-1 that someone ends up convicted of a federal crime.

I'd be willing to lay 2-1 that KU will NOT be punished beyond a probationary warning, ie "We're watching you closely for the next 3 years, but no sanctions".

Needless to say, if this were uncovered at 21st & Hillside, it would be game over. Death Penalty, no ifs ands or buts.

That $1.03 million is the low (verifiable) figure. They think it could be as high as $3 million. And that's face value. To those involved in the scheme, it was probably double that, at a minimum.

I wouldn't consider the "Director of Ticket Operations" a "high-ranking member of the University of Kansas athletic department". If anything, KU will be told to clean up their act and be scrutinized by the NCAA a little closer and forced to sever ties to David and Dana Pump. I honestly don't believe anything would happen to any NCAA school in regards to this. It's one guy abusing his tiny role in the athletic department and being sleezy with a few others who had no connection to the school besides being a former player and dad. But this is what happens when a school has such success. Nobody could get away with this at WSU. The basketball tickets aren't that hot of a commodity.

Now, if those guys used that money to pay AAU coaches to get players to go KU, then it's an entirely different story and KU may have some games to forfeit.... along with a pretty big one against Memphis a few years ago. Especially if Lew Perkins is found to have something to do with all this. That guy is 100% sleeze.

That could make for an interesting recording of that game. In the 2008 National Championship game (Team stricken from records due to violation of NCAA rules) beat (Team stricken from records due to violation of NCAA rules) in an overtime thriller.

Kevin Keitzman is crucifying Lew Perkins on WHB 810 radio right now.

                            Good stuff.

Nor in the state by the time he is fired or resigns from KU. There are a lot of donors who will want his head on a platter remembering their donations going up as their seat selection at AFH got progressively worse. Not good!

Unfortunately, this might be the tip of the iceberg...

Trouble seems to follow LP no matter where he works.
