  • K State AD Currie on playing in Wichita

K-State’s Currie has plan to capitalize on basketball success

Near the end of the article, Currie says...
We would very much like to play a game in Wichita. We certainly have a sincere interest in playing there, and I would anticipate at some point in the next five years we will play there.

thats good news...though the 5 year plan isnt quite like jumping in the fire or striking while the iron is hot....but lets hope its much sooner than later

<edit> well it looks like the rumors we heard were true but it didnt work work out..that sucks

K-State has already scheduled three neutral-court games at the Sprint Center next season — two games in the CBE Classic against Duke, Marquette or Gonzaga, plus a game against UNLV — and Currie said K-State came close to adding another in Wichita.

It didn’t work out, but Currie said K-State will play at Intrust Bank Arena before long.

Good news? Where in this article did it say "play WSU"? All I got out of the article was that they were trying to set up a neutral court game against some opponent and play it in Wichita just like they're doing in KC.

well I assumed with the rumors about a game between KSU and WSU that we were the team being disscussed..maybe not though. If so obviously not good news

My guess is they would like to play a game in Wichita to woo Perry since every D1 school in Kansas has an offer to him. The season after next would be my guess on when that would happen since he would then be a senior, but if he's planning on signing with someone in November 2011, perhaps next year would've been wiser, but who knows?

As has been pointed out before...and not sure if you guys are jumping to conclusions, but KSU said they'd like to play at IBA. At no point did they say the opponent would be WSU. In fact there previous comments on the matter involved other teams.

              I'm with you shockar25,
except that there ia potentially a LOT more
talented players in Wichita than just Ellis.

Anybody who wants to play in Wichita can wait until after all the upcoming sophomores graduate as far as I am concerned.

If there isn't any more talent after that, give us a call.

I don't want to give ANYONE else a free shot at Wichits high school kids for at least 3 years, IMO.

Being in Wichita is a recruiting advantage we need to keep.

I might be willing to make an exception if any of those teams want to play us, but having KSU and some other team or KU and some other team IN OUR BACKYARD is not acceptable. They need to suck it up, have faith in their programs and play us. If they beat us, fine--we had a chance to show our stuff too.

Marshall and Martin seem to be pretty tight with one another. That might make it more likely it will be us playing them at IBA.

Just curious why it's "not acceptable"? We don't own IBA. Does UMKC get mad when KU plays games at the Sprint Center against other opponents? Does Creighton have a say when Nebraska steps into the Quest Center and plays someone else? I'm sure it happens in a number of cities with arenas.

I guess we don't own it, but you'd think they would give us a chance to play there first. It probably won't work out that way however.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - both KU & KSU's first games at IBA will not involve WSU. Wouldn't it be a kick in the grapes if the first D1 game at IBA did not include WSU.

I would be willing to bet my right grape that we are not in the equation when the squawks and mild kitties come to town.

I'll be pissed if all those sales taxes I was paying went to allowing K-State and KU stick a thumb in our face.

Screw that -- call up Appalachian State and let's get this thing done.

If we're concerned about playing the first basketball game there, that's all on us. If WSU doesn't get a game scheduled, who's fault is that? I don't see KU or KSU playing here as sticking a thumb in our face. It would however prove the fact that they are indead afraid to play us and there would be no ifs, ands or buts about it.

I wonder if there's some sort of handshake deal that AD Sexton could arrange with Sedgwick County involving the scheduling of D1 games at IBA.

Kinda like, "Oh you're interested in playing in Wichita at IBA? Give WSU a call, and see if they can arrange it. We'd be happy to offer a game at IBA between you two."
