      From BearNation:

"Missouri State men’s basketball player Michael Porter is recovering from surgery in a Springfield hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident early Thursday, according to head coach Cuonzo Martin.

A crash report issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated the vehicle Porter was driving overturned and ejected him. The cause of the accident, which occurred in rural Christian County, is not specified in the report.

“We want to thank the Missouri State family for their concern and prayers for Michael and his family,” said Martin. “He has a long road ahead of him, but all things considered, the doctors have indicated he is very fortunate.”

Porter missed all but six games his freshman season in 2009-10 with a hamstring injury. The Sikeston, Mo., native scored 23 points and collected 13 points in limited action. He was recently approved for a medical redshirt which would give him four years of eligibility remaining with the Bears."

This article says the Valley is a 1 bid league again but doesn't really make any predictions other than saying Wichita St and Missouri St will challenge for the title

In 2005-2006, the Missouri Valley Conference had 6 teams in the top 41 of the RPI. The following year, they had 4. For the last three years they have had only one. The trend is unmistakable and alarming for the conference as a whole...

Creighton has officially lost Dana Altman, who probably wishes he never met P'Allen Stinnett
              LOL!

That was one monumental recruiting mistake. Interesting that a national report on the Valley chooses to take yet another shot at Stinnett. It seems his reputation has reached the national stage.

The really sad thing is that Stinnett appears to be more concerned with maintaining his thug image and displaying temper and ego than with working on college or basketball. Here's hoping he enjoys his future sweeping floors and cleaning toilets. He's blowing opportunities to better that future.

"Bradley continues to overachieve (somebody please look at Jim Les)."

Seriously? Exactly how does a team that has never finished above 4th in the conference under this coach, continue to overachieve?

Outside of the '06 tourney, when have they overachieved? Those must be some seriously low expectations.

WuDrWu continues to overachieve, must to the consternation of many on Shockernet, by not obtaining room temperature for the 17 thousandth consecutive day.

I just read that. You sir are a funny man.

To follow up on my earlier post, I get more than a little nervous when I see articles where we are picked high and then read something like Bradley overachieving.

You guys might want your own thread on this but I thought I would post here...congrats on the pub!

Had intended to post this weeks and weeks (and weeks) ago but got derailed by the expansion, USC football, more expansion — and it reached the point that July seemed like a good spot, right before football ramps back up.… Continue Reading →

                    25. Wichita State (Not Ranked): Three of the top-four scorers return from a team that won 25 games and finished second (to Northern Iowa) in the Missouri Valley.

I wonder how many writers look deep enough and actually get this stat right to the full level they can take it.

WSU returns 8 of its top 9 scorers.

That would be nice, but you know UConn and OU will complain that we were seeded above them and we'll probably end up #6. Given the fact that it's the beginning of the season, and we will not have had any chance to 'prove' ourselves (the BCS conference schools can go on name recognition alone) prior to starting the tourney.

Looking back at last year, I think EA Sports made the announcement on the seeding/pairings in early August. So, hopefully we won't have long to wait to find out.

                          • I'll scream like a stuck pig if we're below 5. OU is in shambles. Virginia has only hope that they are good. Only going on reputation can you put UCONN ahead of us, but at least I could get that. Being below OU or UVA would be beyond an insult.

                              • Man, it's been a rough off season for Missouri St.

First Michael Porter was injured in a serious car accident in June could miss quite a bit of time this season:

Now Keith Pickens will likely miss the entire 2010-2011 season after he ruptured his left patellar tendon.
