that cause Mid-Majors to not get a lot of respect. His latest article says that having cinderellas in the Final Four or the Elite Eight would be bad for College Basketball. It might not be the people you want to be there but it is always great to see Mid-Majors pull upsets. It is obvious that by the numbers of conferences with teams represented in the Sweet Sixteen that there is a lot of parity in college basketball and that there is only a few truly dominant teams each year.

I'd like to ask Parrish whats up with the hair? It looks like some kind a of preppy mohawk thing. Or he might just have a really pointy head.
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

Parrish is usually one of the good guys. He's just saying that for most people, the final four would lose appeal if none of the "familiar names" are around. Whether this is true, I'm not sure. Sort of a similar case, but I wonder how the television draw was for the football BCS bowl matchup this last year between Boise St. and TCU?

The guy is nothing more than a company man carrying out the company mantra. Will the ratings be hurt by not having the blue bloods playing against each other....probably, so that affects cbs bottom line. Its all about the money. He would be looking for a new job if he talked about how great it would be if they did have a final four with a couple of cinderellas playing. He's a corporate tool that is trying to convince people we should not be interested in such match ups and if we are there is something inherantly wrong with us because we can see match ups in bracket busters.

IMO a final four with 2 mids vs 2 majors would be ideal. It's when you have mids against mids that people begin to stop paying attention.KU fans are the most arrogant while KSU fans are the most delusional. ~BostonWu
Criticizing this team is like criticizing one of Jerry's kids. ~DaShox

So when hes like "WSU r0xor5" then we like him.
But when formulates a opinion that we dont like hes and idiot.
Well how about this.
HES RIGHT.
Yeah for us that follow mid major teams and know what kind of disrespect they see we would watch a Cornell Vs UNI final.
But we are a minority. The vast majority of people in the world dont give two shits about any team not in a power conference. Some are ignorant and idiotic. Some have some knowledge but stick to their guns.
But you people have to quit flip flopping. You will never be able to have your cake and eat it too.

I didn't want to read that column but I did. Here are my thoughts.
Whether he's right or not isn't the point. So he pegged the current atmosphere for college basketball fans. Big whoop. About a million people literate enough to write a coherent sentence could have written that article.
It's rubbish.
What he should be doing, if he really cared about the charm of amateur sports and college basketball in particular, is telling all those people he claims won't be interested enough to watch to get over themselves and realize that while it may put less money into the pockets of CBS, it's positively wonderful for the sport.
Don't even try to tell me that the early portion of the 2006-07 season wasn't awesome for college basketball. And it had nothing to do with the "big boys". It was due to George Mason, Bradley and Wichita State's tournament runs followed by WSU's rise into the top 10. WSU and Mark Turgeon were plastered all over the ESPN, CBS, SI, TSN websites. The thought that there was a new arrival on the scene was exciting and interesting. And it was good for the game.
And hearing Gary Williams whine about it was just icing on the cake. That right there should be proof enough.
