What do you mean do things the right way? They whine as much as anybody. Coach K is a foul mouth. They have perfected the fairy flop.

What distinguishes the right way that you talk about?
Don't cheat, graduate their players and no/very few off court problems.

This criteria doesn't separate them from a lot of schools. The right way seems to infer that most schools don't.

Mike is less of a "foul mouth" than 95% of the coaches, and he whines less than 97% of them.

They graduate kids. Compared to the VAST majority of BCS powers, they have student athletes. I don't remember the year, but Coach K did not let a Final 4 banner hang for a group of seniors that didn't have someone graduate. Mike is polite and very complimentary of his opponents. I think he has merged the best of RMK with his own style. No doubt there is some sCUm elitism going on, and CL was annoying.....but they've had a TON of real high quality people go through that program.

Guys like Johnny Dawkins, Jay Bilas, Grant Hill, Mark Alarie, David Henderson, Shane Battier etc.....all class individuals and there are dozens more.

        • You have probably visited with more officials than I have about Coach K. I will temper my thoughts on the foul mouth part of that one. I'm not very good at reading lips.

          • You might not notice it but it's always there. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has never brought attention to the pin he wears on his lapel. Coach K and a friend, Ross Deutsch, tell Andy Katz the story of a pin that symbolizes a bond forged through tragedy.

            • Coach K is a great coach and person and of course a future Hall of Famer.

Great game and Butler is for real. Don't forget they were ranked 8th pre- season this year. I look for them to be top 3 this coming year.

              • Could one of their players have started for K-State this year?

Thanks for that link ASM. I have always had a lot of respect for Coach K and reading that makes me like him even more. A classy coach for a classy program and university.

Hayward for sure - huge improvement over Dom Sutton.

As I stated in a previous thread, I have heard more than one national sportswriter refer to Hayward as a future first round draft pick in the NBA.

Is this a gauge showing how much our Shocker team must improve over the summer to make the NCAA Tourney (without counting on the tourney going to 96 teams)?

It's more of a gauge on what the talent differential is between the 2....do you think we have 1 player that could start for Butler?

Do NOT kid yourself for even 1 second. Butler is VERY good.
My thoughts exactly. Watching the young Butler team, I felt we have no one on our team that would have seen the floor if they were on Butler's team!

..and that begs the question,...what difference is there that precludes WSU from getting the type of players, and developing the type of players as Butler has done. Butler is not full of 4-star players, but you couldn't tell that by the way they played.

Others would have to get the specifics, but I believe that their sophomore class was pretty highly regarded. They got that class by having several years in a row where they were consistently in the national rankings. Plus, Indiana is a basketball hotspot and I think they are benefiting from the struggles of Indiana University (as is Purdue).

                          • I believe that Duke is a school that doesn't bend their academic admission requirements for student athletes, either. So, not only are they recruiting 4 and 5 star basketball players, they are also recruiting kids whose grades are near blue-chip as well.

It's this that makes me wonder why they aren't recruiting Perry Ellis.
