He had to have.....because he certainly did. I have no idea why. Why you'd give someone a chance to beat you, I don't understand. If they are up 3, they cannot lose.
The game was an all-time classic.
Too bad we won't see anything like it ever again with the idiots at the NCAA deciding to go to a 96-team tournament.
You make that shot, and the other team can inbounds the ball with a long throw to the center court line, then have a few seconds to either pass or dribble it closer.
As it was, Butler got as close to the basket as they could have in the time they were given, and it was almost a half-court shot. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Really? It was FAR worse than I thought it would be, and I wasn't expecting much so the bar was fairly low.

As for people's hatred of Duke, there are a few reasons I can think of:
1. They always win.
2. They are a relatively small private school with high tuition costs, and as such, pull students from a more "elite" demographic (financially speaking).
3. Somewhat corollary to #2, Duke is even despised by most in North Carolina. UNC is North Carolina's team; a vast majority (somewhere around 85%) of Duke students come from out of state (they traditionally draw strong from the North East).
Add it up, you have the perfect storm of a school full of "daddy's money" that always wins. Those are two things Americans love to hate. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Leave it to CBS, who somehow finds a way to screw a classic right into the ground. It actually required a lot of effort to make something that bad. 8)Above all, make the right call.

How many times have I seen this year a shooter launching a 3-ball and being slightly bumped following the shot be awarded free throws? Is it a foul to bump somebody after a shot at the 3-point stripe but it isn't a foul to bump somebody still coming down from making a layup and knocking them two steps out of bounds? Butler should have had a game-tying FT opportunity."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".
A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

What a great National Championship game. Butler gave it their all, but unfortunately they couldn't hit the broad side of the barn in the 2nd half. It's amazing that Mack and Heyward were a combined 7-25 yet they still only lost the game by 2.
Duke haters crack me up. I don't normally agree with Dick Vitale, but I think he is spot on when he talks about Duke. They are smart kids who do things the right way and because they are winners in most aspects of their lives people become jealous and one of the main ways people portray their jealousy is by spewing hate.
Those kids at Duke deserve this National Title as much as the kids from Butler did. Both of those programs do things the right way and proved last night that when you play fundamentally sound and smart basketball that it can be just as exciting and enjoyable to watch as the high flying, above the rim stuff that you typically see from the BCS schools. That was one of the best games I have ever seen and hopefully it will be one that won't be forgotten for a long time.

Butler starters consisted of 3 sophomores, a junior & a senior, and played in the national championship game. How does their program differ from that of WSU who had a lot of young players and an experienced coach, as well?
Is this a gauge showing how much our Shocker team must improve over the summer to make the NCAA Tourney (without counting on the tourney going to 96 teams)?

Grant Hill is one of my all time favorite players. Christian Laettner is my least. The former is the anamoly.
What do you mean do things the right way? They whine as much as anybody. Coach K is a foul mouth. They have perfected the fairy flop.
What distinguishes the right way that you talk about?

It's more of a gauge on what the talent differential is between the 2....do you think we have 1 player that could start for Butler?
Do NOT kid yourself for even 1 second. Butler is VERY good.
