However, let's just wait for the rumor mill to stop spinning before we get our blood pressure up.
This gets so old. Just another way for you to somehow get a dig in at WSU.

Nearly every program is a stepping stone for one reason or another.

If a coach leaves WSU, it mostly likely isn't b/c of the money.

Do I really need to go through the list of coaches going from BCS to BCS or the NBA to respond to the notion that WSU is somehow different from those schools?

What would you rather have - a coach like Turgeon or Marshall, who's going to be listed for better jobs every year and eventually take one

      -OR-

a coach like Lowery or Les who doesn't get any job offers nd isn't mentioned for every coaching vacancy in the entire BCS.

I'll take the coach who moves on and the risk of a hire.

I don't care how bad the losses are, the valley should not be talking about it's second place team, that made it to the conference final, losing to the number one team, being on the bubble. The f***ing third place team is where the bubble talk should start for the valley, NOT second!
Not only this, but of concern is the seeding that Northern Iowa gets this year. If it doesn't end up higher than an 8 or 9 with the season they've had (which in terms of wins and losses, at least, is about the most that any valley team could hope for), then there is a problem. If the valley develops a pattern of being a one-bid league, and that bid generally gets a relatively low seed, then Marshall's no better off than he was at Winthrop.

Of course, you can still have a one-bid league with high seedings for the tourney team (e.g. Memphis, Gonzaga), but that means both beating the BCS boys and totally outclassing the rest of your league, which Marshall has a better chance of doing with WSU's resources than he did with Winthrop's.

But his examples of Gonzaga and USU don't fit into the Lowery and Les examples and they also haven't moved on. I think we could be capable of something like that at least at some point. We have the support and money to make a coach quite happy and I believe given the proper time we can/will be able to recruit higher level players than what we're seeing and be capable of making plenty of noise.

This is simply a fact of life that we have in the past and will more than likely in the future have to live with. We all hate it because it seems that just about the time our incumbent coach starts to see the fruits of his labor come to fruition, he is whisked off by a job offer he can't refuse.

The only way this daisy chain will ever likely be broken is that we luck off and get a coach (and his family) who simply loves it here and feels that he can continue to take our program higher and higher every year now that the momentum is going.

At the present time, we can only hope that GM is that man.

This is the way I see this merry go round. Find a coach that likes it here and can build something he and everyone else is proud of, feels like he can compete in the ncaa at something more than a 12 seed, be well compensated, and have great support from the community and the administration. Guess what? WSU offers 4 of the 5 that allows him to be successful. The ncaa and something higher than a 12 seed is the ability to schedule and the mvc upping the talent level of their own teams and their scheduling as well. The mvc HAS to do something about the teams they field as well as the teams they schedule. By becoming a multiple bid conference and able to garner higher seeds will allow our coaches to feel they can compete on a national stage.

Just wait until we whack some teams in Hawaii next season. We won't be a one bid league next year.

I'm more concerned with the teams they schedule than the teams they field. Eventhough scheduling BCS teams is just a part of this improved scheduling, the MVC played fewer BCS teams than the Atl-10, MWC, C-USA, and WCC, but played the BCS teams as well or better than these other conferences. As a note, of the six BCS conferences, the Big 12 played the second most games against these 5 conferences.

We are seeing teams with good records from the Valley getting snubbed, while other similar conferences are getting multiple bids. Need to have fewer 250 RPI and lower cupcakes and more 100-175 RPI challenges.

Just had another amazing brain fart. How come this is not one of the choices in the "what kind of fart are you" topic? Anyway we make an offer to GM in much the same way we made an offer to GS several years ago in putting money away each year (a ten year deal) until it reaches maturity and then he gets the whole enchilada. I believe GS deal was 10 years for a million dollars. 10 years puts GM at 57? Say 1/2 a mill each year final payout 5 mill. A deal like that might be hard to pass on.

Ahhh, good call. Actually sweeten that with conf championship and NCAA appearance bonuses. So it's 200k per year plus additional 50k for conf/tourn championship and additional 100k for NCAA appearance.

So you're assuming that other MVC teams will be joining us?

UTEP may look to former Miners assistant Tim Floyd, a former head coach at USC and a current New Orleans Hornets assistant, as well as former UTEP, Texas A&M and Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie
Of course since Billy has coached at UTEP before maybe it's a way for him to start over? Clean slate?
