I understand what you are saying Steeleshocker, but I think SubGod is right on the mark. I have a feeling that there is a lot more that goes into deciding the matchups than just who finishes where during the previous season. I'm sure that they look at a combination of where teams are currently and where they anticipate them being during the next season. Who's to say that SDS won't be a top 2 or 3 team next season in the MWC?

...and even the best prognostigators of basketball cannot foresee the inevitable. Remember the 06 Shockers? Beat the pants off of 5 or 6 opponants that were BCS caliber, then fell flat on our faces for the rest of the season.

The addition of one or two new players in the mix can definately change up the chemistry on a team, either positively or negatively. Sometimes, it's a new better player that can destroy the mix on the team. No one knows until it happens.

IMHO, SDSU is a good addition to our schedule, and I enjoy hearing the news about them being added to our schedule, rather than some Dll addition to the schedule.

I'm not at all knocking SDS and how strong they will probably be next year. It's just that if BYU or UNLV were available to have a home game, we'd had a better chance at national TV and better pub.

About the match-ups.

For the First year of the Challange

In keeping with the overall objective of the Challenge, match-ups for the first year are based in part on 2008-09 pre-season rankings and on RPI rankings from the previous year, or RPI rankings from the preceding three-year period.

A number of factors were taken into consideration in determining the nine match-ups for the 2009 Challenge, starting with the inclusion of match-ups of teams in three previously-scheduled games that were already contracted as part of home-and-home series between teams in the two conferences. The initial Challenge spans nearly a month and a half from start to finish (Nov. 13 to Dec. 23), but future challenges will have a more concentrated schedule for the games in the series.

For Future challenges:

The two leagues will alternate between having five home games in one year and four in the second year (the Mountain West will have four home games in 2009 and 2011, and five in 2010 and 2012).

For the following three years of the Challenge, the series match-ups will be made by a Challenge Committee consisting of three athletics directors from each league and representatives of each conference office staff.

Just went to check out the rosters for the top 4 teams in the MWC.

I noticed that SDS is now tied for 3rd in the league, so it may not be far off.

But, at most, those top teams are losing only one senior who contributes significantly. Based on that I would figure a similar result next season.

Since the MWC has two clear top teams (both ranked in the top 25), I would have hoped to be playing one of them, but SDS is still clearly a high-quality opponent, and will greatly improve our schedule.

I like our odds much better of winning at SDSU instead of The Pit. This is a great game for the resume next year.

Better to win by 6 on the road against a top 40 team than to lose by 8 on the road to a top 15 team.

We will have enough top-notch opportunities in Hawaii.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. In Friday's KC Star Frank Martin confirmed that he is favorable to a game with us in Intrust Arena.

I've been listening to his coaches show, and the more I listen the more I like him. Tonight he said when no one knew him and the pundits werent so complimentary the K-State fans circled the waggons around him. He said this means so much to him and their going to have to carry him out in a box to get rid of him. 8)

That's very cool, honestly. I'm no purple lover but they have a nice bball history and them being good helps from KU just running roughshod over their Big 12 schedule, so that works for me.
