    • I just watched Jay Williams on ESPN argue that Illinois had a better case than Utah State. With a straight face.

I want to cry, seriously. I REALLY hope I missed something.

      • On College Basketball Final, Doug Gottlieb and Jay Williams were given 3 blind resumes. After breaking the resumes down, they both went with teams C, B, and A to get in, in that order. When it was revealed that team C was William and Mary, team B was Mississippi State, and team A was Florida, Dougy could only mutter a "wow" and the host went straight to the question of which should get in Florida or Mississippi State, because "Joey Brackets" didn't have William and Mary on the map.

I dunno how well William and Mary stacks up. That's not the point. The point is they totally went away from their initial comments when it was revealed that they were in favor of a decent CAA team over two mediocre SEC teams. They literally shut down the door on William and Mary, despite picking them in the blind test.

Unbelievably sad. The bias is so freaking obvious. The pause when revealing the teams was so awkward when they realized the boo-boo they made.
        Deuces Valley.
        ... No really, deuces.

        • I know it's been discussed here ad nauseum, but even though we won't get in and I already know what undeserving teams will get in, I'm still going to stare at the TV in disbelief and be all whiney this evening.

Last one with an NIT ticket is a rotten egg.

          • I'm going to save my complaining for the NIT seed, which will probably only give us one home game.

We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I'll bet they never do that again on tv.

Yet another reason to get out of the Valley.
And go where? I'm all for nabbing Tulsa, St. Loius, and Memphis and dropping a few Valley schools, but there are football issues.
This would mean re-adding football, but a CUSA move would be good I think. Lots of teams close to us in the West (Tulsa, Texas schools) and I bet the Shox could fare very well there in hoops.

With the next round of crazy conference expansion coming, WSU should start looking ahead. If Tulsa can make a move like this I'm sure we could.

                • The disturbing item, after watching a week of games and analysis, is that teams such as WSU and William & Mary are rarely presented as “bubble” teams. WSU’s resume is quite similar to Mississippi State. If you’re watching ESPN in recent weeks, you don’ t know that. Does that affect the selection committee, which is tasked with watching games? Probably not. But it doesn’t seem like a good situation for teams in WSU’s situation.
From Shockwaves, and I completely agree.

Utah State was just brought up again on ESPN as a possible "Out" team. I truly hope they don't get jobbed again (a la 2005).

With all this negative press/popularity and simple non-coverage this week, how can our conference, along with the other partners, continue to justify the Bracket-Buster for ESPN?

On ESPN radio the two announcers argued over Utah State vs Vir Tech, One said Utah State couldnt win 9 games in the ACC and Vir Tech would go undefeated in the WAC. The other thought that was crazy and said Utah State was the better team. WSU was not mention, stating Utah States only good win was BYU! :posterwu:

The Bracket busters is wrothless. If they can't get the A-10, MWC, C-USA involved then they need to get rid of it. A whole bunch of one bid leagues playing each other and the Valley and the WAC makes no sense.

"I'll bet they never do that again on tv."

Actually, pogo, ESPN deserves some credit for having the guts to do it at all and risk embarrassment. And, of course, the ESPN guys are obviously not selection committee members, so just because they screwed up doesn't mean the official selectors would do the same (although, as it turns out, they did -- the committee also favored Florida over W&M).

What would be nice is if some others pick up on it and publicize the ESPN fiasco widely. And what would be nicer still would be for the committee to be compelled by such an incident to go to truly blind selections for at-large spots. That would be the best way to end the "eye test" prejudice.

I have never seen trash talking like that on a visitor's board before. UNLV fans have pulled out all the stops and deserve to get pummelled. Even WSU is getting dragged through the mud. Go, UNI!!
