  • What marquee wins does the MVC have against BCS schools this year? I can't think of any (although I may be forgetting some). You have to pull a few upsets so the committee knows that you can play with anybody. In 06 there were a slew of wins against top 25 teams, and top 25 teams that stayed there through selection Sunday. As a conference, we just didn't get it done against the few money teams we got a shot at.

    • Now that it's been established other teams have a lone bad loss (200+ RPI, but not quite as bad as 250 UE), now compare their quality wins, average RPI win, average RPI loss, etc. and see if we still stack up.

If we do, I have every confidence we'll get the consideration we deserve from the committee.

About the only way any non-BCS school can get a marquee win against a BCS school is in an exempt tournament. Then when selection Sunday comes around and the selection committee looks at a team's record, SOS, and good and bad wins, if they haven't played any BCS schools, either because they weren't in an exempt tournament, or no BCS school would play them, then they're out of luck.

If the BCS schools really want to keep non-BCS schools out of the tournament (not counting automatic qualiifers), just don't play them.

        • Why make the BCS scools the end-all, be-all. May as well just make this an all BS, I mean BCS tournament & be done w/ it.

Also did UTEP just screw us or did they screw themselves?

Did they win the Valley by 3 games? Check.
What was their road record? Check.
What was their overall record? Check.
How many quality wins did they have? Check.

            • If we had any chance to get in, it's pretty much gone now with Houston upsetting UTEP in the C-USA championship. Houston gets in with a 19-15 record. UTEP will get in with their 26-6 record and regular season title.

UTEP should be safely in (although they don't have a lot on their resume either other than winning the CUSA regular season title- 11th place conference in rpi).

Houston winning certainly hurts any slim chances WSU has. The biggest losers are probably UAB and Memphis. Any small chance either of them had to make it is probably gone with the Houston win.

There is no way CUSA deserves 3 or 4 bids this year (they don't deserve 2). :wsu_posters:

                • It is just a darn shame that everyone practically is saying this is the weakest at-large bunch of candidates all-time and we could not take advantage of this situation.

In our third year of rebuilding, it's nice to get to the NIT but it would have been a real bonus for us to take advantage of this situation. Simply put, we needed a win against Pitt or Utah State and not lose to Evansville. Two games put us on the outside looking in IMO.

                    Totally agree.

On a side note, that annoying, lingering scab called Illinois finally got picked off by Ohio State. I don't care what ANYONE says.. a 19-14 record with an RPI in the low 70's.. you BETTER be cooked.

                    14 losses? NOPE. I don't think so.

But will you be truly surprised if Illinois gets in? In a weird way, I could almost see them getting in as a bass ackwards way of justifying why the tournament needs to be expanded, at least in the NCAAs eyes. Aside from $$$ that is.

BTW, this morning I heard the ESPN talking heads pounding out how the RPI needs to be de-emphasized more and trust the omnipotent "eye test". What a load of bull, to put a team in because they have talent and potential, whether they lived up to it or not. Texas has tons of talent and potential, yet they've blown chunks the last half of the season.

Not to mention their 11-14 record against the rpi top 200. Anyone with a losing record against the rpi top 200 does NOT belong in the dance!!!!

                          • If WSU gets left out, this will make the 3rd time since 2004 that they have gone 12-6 and not made it. Two of those times, with a 2nd place finish, and it still isn't good enough.

Yet another reason to get out of the Valley.

And go where? I'm all for nabbing Tulsa, St. Loius, and Memphis and dropping a few Valley schools, but there are football issues.
