    • This is where Elgin needs to be forcing himself on every major sports media market now and telling people about us over some of these conference tourney losers.

And now the waiting begins for the Wichita State Shockers. “We’ll just wait it out and see where we stand,” senior guard Clevin Hannah said following Wichita’s ...

That's what I'm saying... The guy needs to be doing everything he can to help give the Shockers a chance.

One thing people need to understand is that where we finished in our conferences doesn't matter. Our undefeated home record doesn't matter. Our RPI doesn't matter (MSU in 2006 and comments from committee members over the years tell us this). Our record and the RPI of team's we've played is what matters.

If you want to understand more and see what a team's "dance card" looks like and the selection process, go here.

Here is what the mock selection participant noted about the team sheet:

One thing that really struck me was up in the top left corner, the first thing a committee member sees when scanning one of these. There's average RPI win and average RPI loss. That's not something that you can find on any website, is it? (Don't worry, we're on it this weekend.) SJU's average win of 170 makes its profile look a whole lot less impressive.

Wins and losses are broken down by opponent's RPI: 1-50, 51-100, etc. The lower two blocks are a graphical breakdown of all games by opponent RPI (red equals a loss, orange indicates an away game, green is home), and teal shading indicates nonconference. Games within a team's last 12 played are repeated at the bottom. Did I mention that opponent RPI is important?
If you want to see what this year's team sheet for WSU looks like, here is reproduction that BBState got permission from the NCAA to publish.

                • I was able to see the team sheet for Memphis before BBState started asking for a subscription. Here are where the UM and WSU are more than just slightly different, although it appears that conference tourney losses are counted as "Div 1 non-conf" for some reason, so keep that in mind:

Avg RPI win: WSU 157, UM 179
                  Div 1 non-conf W/L: WSU 12-3, UM 10-6
                  Div 1 non-conf win % rank: WSU 32, UM 117
                  Div 1 SOS: UM 78, WSU 99
Div 1 opponent SOS: WSU 18, UM 162 (this one seems off to me)
                  Div 1 non-conf opp SOS: WSU 105, UM 121
                  Div 1 non-conf team RPI: UM 51, WSU 70

All the other metrics are so close they are a wash, IMO.

Most of the bracketologies I've seen today have Memphis among the first 8 out and no mention of WSU. What I think this means is that the selection committee may think a little more highly of WSU than many or even most of the bracketologists.

Boy you aren't kidding, but another top 20 win is going to get the Illini in.

And that should be our death nail as well. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

                              • Illinois won, but Virginia Tech lost to Miami, placing them on the bubble maybe??

Also, we need Mississippi to lose to Tennessee. Ole Miss is up 1 at the half.

UTEP is leading Tulsa by 9, in the 1st half, which is also great news.
