Think Koch might sell out for this game?

I think that anyone who experienced the NIT game against FSU in Koch knows why not to move a game to a venue that can't get nearly as loud.
    I was there...

Add in the fact that money will not be made, as SB said. After the rent is canceled off, we'd be making the same amount as we would at Koch, with about half the atmosphere.
If money can't be made from playing there, why is the school even contemplating about playing one game there a season? Until you have the facts about how much it is to rent, your post is merely just...well...a guess?

I don't have facts, but we do have educated guesses.

Why do you want to be in IBA so bad? Have you been there? It's a great facility but it's quiet. Silent.

You said you were there for FSU at Koch. Does that not mean anything to you?

Just doesn't make any sense at all whatsoever.

      ... No really, deuces.

Well, we don't know one way or another, that's for certain.

I never said, I wanted it "so bad". I just figured, hey, it's the N.I.T.... Why not?

Let's have a little fun with the new arena, is all I'm saying!

The reason they want to play one game a year at IBA is to establish a track record of being able to operate the facility. This is a benefit when submitting an NCAA bid.

If we get the NIT, we need to play it at Koch, as that is where we have our home court advantage. The only benefit to playing in IBA I can see, aside from more available seats, would be giving players experience at playing in venues they aren't familiar with. Not enough, along with the fact no rent is needed for CKA, makes it an easy decision. You stay in your home barn.

            Bingo.

The other reason I can think of is that there might be some large conference teams that we could only get to play us in Wichita if it was held at IBA instead of Koch, because it is either part of a tournament or they could get more of their fans tickets to the IBA game than a true home game for WSU.

Such a scenario (mini-tournament or multigame event) is probably even better for a bid submission, since it shows you can handle the multigame day structure.

It would be intriguing to see how 15K+, mostly yellow & black clad raging Shocker fans would work inside IBA. Why not give it a shot. I'd only be for it as long as it would work out financially for the university equally or better than a game at the Koch.

Which more than likely wouldn't happen. Ticket sales wouldn't go through the WSU ticket office, but instead ticketmaster or whatever it is. It just isn't a good idea for an NIT game. Not when WSU would have a legit shot at making a good run towards NYC.

Yeah, save it til next year for an OOC game.

While I'm all for our Athletic Department doing well financially, it doesn't amount to a hill of beans to me how much they make from one event. I simply want the best atmosphere possible for postseason play, especially if we have a chance to defend the court where we've gone 17-0.

yea how old is that bracket? UCONN and OK state wont be in the NIT, it also had oklahoma on there twice. and UNC coming here would definitely be interesting.

I don't like that match-up as well as the other one. That could be a brutal game.

Still hoping we make the NCAA of course. However, if we do end up in the NIT, I hope to hell we don't get a team that we are gonna start seeing on the schedule starting next year anyway. :(

I don't have any numbers but this assumption just doesn't seem reasonable if the game was a sellout. You have more tickets to sell and you sell them for more $ (i.e. luxury boxes). Also your expenses except rent are lower.

BTW - anybody notice ISU (red) is an 8 seed?

UNC got their 2000th win tonight vs Miami. Ironic that they would hit that milestone during such a down season. Would still love to see them come to Wichita. I'd pull for the Shox.
