For the very upper end of teams in Bracket Busters, it is an elimination game for consideration for an at large bid. It's been that way for years.

A team can still get an at large if they win one of just a few non-BCS leagues, and lose BB and their leagues auto bid, but that's about the only way.

A BB win for an upper-level BB team doesn't guarantee an invite, but a loss just about guarantees not getting one.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Very true. Andy Katz called UNI's win against Old Dominion on Friday a MUST win for them to be an at-large. When you lose a total of 3 games and win a league like the Valley by two games and you MUST beat a team in the bracket buster fiasco, then there is a problem with the system.

Two points: 1) Had UNI played on the road, a win probably would not have been required to get an at-large spot; 2) A loss at home to a mid-major who was squarely on the bubble, could have allowed ODU to replace them.

Let's see - 1 was a "no gain, no loss" situation and 2 was a "no gain, but could lose" situation.

Tell me again why the Valley is still in this thing, while the Atlantic-10, C-USA, MWC, and WCC have opted out?

Another reason not to be in the BB is that our guys could certainly have used the time off to both rest up and prepare for our last two conference games..

These kids are work horses, they are here to cultivate revenue for our beloved alma mater's athletic programs. It's all about the Benjamins. I'm not condoning the system but it is what it is and that's a form of institutionalized slavery/indentured servitude through the NCAA.

The MVC squeezes an extra game into the early conference schedule in order to make room for the BB game. For WSU it was a TUE, FRI, SUN, WED, SAT sequence. Five games in 12 days. If we were not in the BB, we'd still be playing a conference game that weekend without the cramped early schedule.

I wouldn't call it slavery, but it is certainly indentured servitude. Even if these guys receive $20k worth of tuition and boarding, it's nothing compared to the generation of direct and indirect revenue. Hence why booing the team is so reprehensible. (Not that I want to open that can of worms again.)
