About his refusal to call time-outs? Sure, been discussed many times. His opinion is that they learn to dig themselves out of trouble. Interesting point, and not without some merit. I'm sure not all agree with it 100% of the time, but that concept probably has it's place.

I really don't care who the personnel are, I would just like a game where we play the "hair on fire" style of play we were promised (and received for the first 60% of the season). If we shoot 22% from the field and lose, so be it, just give me that kind of intensity and effort again.

... No really, deuces.

It was not so long ago, some right here on SN wanted to redshirt. Mr. Stutz next Season. Actually, he has done quite well in several games this Season offensively. I like him in the game with either JT or Gabe. I am not so concerned with who starts this late in the scheme of things. I am so offensive minded yet they say it is "D-fence" that wins championships.
The connection of the dots now is 2 fold to me. In our player rotation, who will get the most minutes and who will finish these games? This will vary with the match-ups of who we play and who is producing each game. Coach Marshall wants to win and I picked us to win 21 total games and finish around 3rd or 4th in the Valley. The Shocks have already exceeded mine and most preseason prognostications. Thus I know Coach Marshall will not be hobnobbing with FSF as to my ballyhooed opinions, knowing I have never made one thin dime coaching even at the pee-wee level. Therefore, I will trust that our fine Coaching Staff will make the needed changes from here and moving forward. However, when it is all said and done, the dust settles, it all comes out in the wash, and the black and gold curtains close for another finished Season, I doubt few Shocker zealots predicted preseason that we would have jumped forward this much and we are not done yet!!!Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

More Why's to ponder...
From Shockwaves:
Reserve center Garrett Stutz is scoring and rebounding well in recent games.
“He’s aggressive offensively,” Marshall said. “His downfall is defensively. They just attack him. We’ve got to get more guys playing well at both ends.”
I guess I just don’t get it. Who was getting attacked last night on the defensive end? Seems to me Ellis gets a free pass.
From Sully's article:
"They run their offense," Kyles said. "Most people just go through the motions. They actually sprint through everything."
Wow what a novel approach to the game. :sarcasm:

so funny to see people bashing marshall, his game planning, his rotation, and his in-game management who have probably never even coached 5 year old basketball
you people have no clue what it's like to coach at the division 1 level
as far as game planning and in-game management, most programs base how they're going to defend players on film and drill it over and over during practice - while USU has some great posts, they have even better guards. the emphasis in practice was probably on them, and how the posts would defend on ball screens and such - it was probably not on them pounding it into the post like they did. you can call all the timeouts you have and talk non-stop about it at halftime, but there's a reason these things are drilled over and over and over again - it's not easy just to make an in-game change with young men at this level
as far as how he runs his rotation - it's a different mentality to start and to come off the bench. some people can't handle starting (whether they can see it or admit it), and that's obviously the coach's job to know what's best for his personnel. can they be wrong? yes. but that's the reason they're paid the big bucks and are the ones that lose their jobs if they are wrong....it's a lot of responsibility, but someone has to do it (and sorry if i don't trust joe-blow on shockernet who probably didn't even play high school ball to make those decisions over the guy we've hired to do it).
and stutz, i still haven't seen him worth 5% of the infatuation that most shocker fans have with him in almost 2 years of him being in wichita. he's slow, he's weak, he's soft, he's the weakest link in our defense whenever he's on the court (commiting stupid foul after stupid foul), and thinks he's dirk nowitzki and needs to shoot 3s whenever they decide not to put a body on him and he gets a dunk
can't wait until next year when we have a good 7 footer on the team

nope
it's in reaction to people fawning all over him simply for the fact that he's 7 foot tall and can (amazingly at that heighth) dunk a lot
i try to look at the product and performance that he (stutz) is putting on the court in a shocker uniform (without the gold and black shaded sunglasses that most who can't find a single thing negative to say about stutz tend to wear), rather then the glitz & glamour that goes into high school recruiting rankings that so many hold on to for far to long when a player is obviously not as good as advertised

rox, your post makes you look completely ignorant. It has been said all year and for the past two years on this board that Stutz isn't where he needs to be but hopefully he will progress year by year similar to Miller. Stutz was not held in that great of esteem by recruiters so I do not know where you got that. He has improved from last year to this and has been instrumental in some of our wins. He has a long way to go. If you think however that our 7 footer coming in is going to be better than Stutz, you are not just ignorant, you, my friend, are smoking dope. Stop that.

yeah, i'm completely ignorant - i should probably just jump on whatever bandwagon is currently the rage on shockernet
hmmm.....marshall has no idea what he's doing? naw, too many threads that suggest that
our student fan-base is too old? eh, too easy
yes, there are people that say stutz isn't where he needs to be - but for every 1 of those rational people, there's 5 clueless hacks that have no idea why he isn't starting or why he doesn't play 38 minutes a game (hence my refence to a dumb infatuation)
i will gladly eat my words if stutz (somehow) proves me wrong over the next 2 seasons and gets to the level that so many on here believe he's already at - there's no way i'm holding my breath though
