I watched the luncheon as well and was happy that Athletic Director Barnes was so on top of things. He was asked an impromtu question by a booster about the situation and he had all the information on the top of his head.

He's a great AD. We'll be lucky if we keep him around Logan for a few years.

You guys have no idea what this means to us. I'm only in high school and the tragedy of that plane crash effects even me; it still resonates today. Thank you guys so much. I don't even care if ESPN picks it up or not. Yes, I'd like to see it, but I'm grateful for the fact that you're even doing it at all. Again, thank you.

I was a student at WSU back in 1970. It was a very sad tragic day. Hats off to your school for honoring the memory of those that died.

I watched the luncheon as well. I was impressed by your coaches.

For anyone interested in the details of the crash the link below is an excellent reference.

May they all rest in peace.

One other bit of history with Utah State, if I'm not mistaken, WSU opened the brand new Cessna Stadium on Sept. 13, 1969 against Utah State. My dad took my brothers and I to it. It was a sellout and we won 17-7. I'm now 51 and I still remember it. My older brother then later played fullback for the Shocks, until a career ending shoulder injury occured.

Also, I remember reading that one of the classy USU fans here said, "I will have to let our AD know that this is the 40th Anniversary of the plane crash."

I might be wrong, but I bet it's this gentleman who got this started. I'm not sure which one of you it was, but USU is first class all the way!

God Bless USU and all their fans!

You are probably right. During their luncheon the AD thanked a booster for bringing this to his attention.

Shocklight are you Shepler? Your brother was a great fulllback. He just got better and better. I was at the USU game as well. Shocker Football was so fun back then even though we lost most of the time. We had some great quarterbacks who ended up getting playing time and having careers in the NFL..Tom Owens and Sam Adkins.

Here is an article that appeared in our Logan newspaper, the Herald Journal, today.

It will be an honor to have your School President and Athletic director in attendance.

Well it appears that 40 years later the quality of your student body, administration, and the surrounding community has remained unchanged.

Thank you and good luck on Saturday.

Thanks for the article....I think this a truly memorable and heart lifting gesture of rememberance.....Things happen for a reason as Doc said
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

Thanks Utah State. Shocker football gave me much joy and sadness and tears. And still does.

No I am not a Shepler. If I remember right he is a little older than my brother (I could be wrong). My brother got injured his freshman year against Oklahoma State. He never made a full recovery and in his sophmore year he had to have surgery. Which ended his career.

I love Utah State... what a great move. I read the most detailed account I've seen on this site
                                http://www.super70s.com/super70s/Tech/Aviation/Disasters/70-10-02(Martin404).asp
and it is very sad. That crash should never have happened.
