The game will take a back seat to this gesture by your university and its administration. A classy move if there ever was one.
Thank You
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"
I was a sophomore at WSU when the accident happened, and I attended the on campus memorial service as well as all the remaining home football games that year. A very good friend of mine was on the plane that landed safely - I will never forget the emotion that the accident generated at that time ................. as well as the memories that occur today.
To all Utah State fans ............... thanks so much for this very classy move !!!!!
This will make me pull for Utah State always except when they play us. Very classy. I have always thought we had some kind of Kinship with USU because we played them more often back in the 60s when I was just a tikeShocker. I am not positive but I think they own a victory over us back when when we were good in the 50s or 60s. Kind of a landmark victory. I will have to research it. Welcome to our board Aggies and Good Luck after Saturday.
I agree with everything that's been said above. Deep wounds still remain in the Wichita community over this tragedy and this gesture along with the recent KPTS documentary is healing some of these wounds. When I take a look back, that dark day in October 1970 strengthened my 'lifetime' love for the Shockers.
A sincere thank you to everyone at USU. :good: :good:

Now you can see my intentions. There is a history in making this road trip, and I am moved USU has recognized it.
God bless the 1970 Shockers. God Bless USU.
It was the doctor who got this started. Quoting from the other thread:

I am real believer that things happen for a reason.
To me, I think this would be an opportunity to honor the memories and souls of those Shockers lost that day. A short moment of silence would be a wonderful tribute, imho.
We often times hear talk of what should be right and good and true and this is a time that honoring their memories would be exactly that.

It is common to hear the opinion that Bracket Busters has run its course. But _USU has made this a special opportunity.
I sounds as if both teams match up well.
It sounds like WSU's team & fans will appreciate the atmosphere.
I appreciate the spirit with which USU fans participate in this forum.
To honor the tragic events of 1970 is a special gesture. I think it is a tremendous sign of respect to college athletics, those who suffered as a result of this accident and Wichita.
In 2006 WSU had a Bracket Buster match up that repeated itself in the Sweet 16. The game hasn't happened but I'm hoping for the same result.
Very classy move indeed and I am moved. I am too young to remember that tradgedy, however my father lost a close friend or two on that flight. So I know how it has affected the community...even to this day.
Thank you Utah St.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
I watched the coaches luncheon again tonight and picked up on one other thing....our AD, Scott Barnes mentioned he had spoken to your AD to let him and your school know about it. I would bet money Barnes contacts ESPN to let them know about it, as well. I would be shocked if ESPN doesn't show it and mention its' importance. I certainly hope they do. As for me, this is the most excited I have been to go to a game in a long while. 1. because we are hosting a quality opponent that may hand it to us.... and 2. it will be an honor to participate in what is done to remember the WSU football team from 40 years ago. Even if it's nothing more than a moment of silence to remember, I will take that time to think of you guys that have welcomed us on your board and have been so classy on our board and to remember those who lost their lives coming to Logan so long ago. It is things like this that make certain matchups so special. This is a matchup I won't forget...and I am a Shocker for life......(other than when we play head-to-head).
