Defense looked really sharp in the first half. Almost all of the hesitating was gone. Second half, I think the guys just got tired - it wasn't as tight as the first half, but still far from terrible. Offensively, I think they just need to calm down and find their groove. My biggest complaint is that none of the passes looked crisp. They gave up a lot of turnovers on lazy passing (or it seemed like it).

The unis are growing on me, although just a leeeetle yellow would be nice.

The crowd was a little better than ArkieTech, but not by a whole lot. I'm working on my neighbors in the nosebleeds of Sec 118, and I've got a few who are helping me now. By the time the conference schedule hits, I should have them whipped into shape. :D

And then I come home and read about Stutz. Oh, yeah. I don't care if they re-seat next year or not. I'll pay it.

I think that offense suffers more than defense with all the different line-ups, but it definitely needs to get better. I think it will.
I'm sure the offense will improve one the rotation is set and they get a few games under their belt, but they definitely have work to do, as is/was expected with a new coach and so many new players.

Still, Gal hitting 17, JT playing well, PT playing pretty well, some good things came out of tonight's game...
Gal hitting 17 was terrific. However, his floor game was not. Looks like the debate about the starting point guard is over. I think Gal will be most effective at the 2.

Defense in the 1st half was crazy good.

Offense not yet gelling. I thought maybe we were a little impatient on offense. Forcing it a little too much. A little quick to take the trey.

        Matt is really hustling.

The work on the boards tonight was also pretty impressive.

Once we get the offense going better we will be a tough out.

Can't wait for the SIU game. That is going to be a real war.

I didn't have a problem with the trey's, most of it wasn't just off a dribble and they were WIDE open majority of the time. Get used to 3's, we will be seeing alot more of that under Marshall, but hopefully it'll be good looks like we got tonight.

Oh and looks to me like Phil's D has improved over last years, he held abercrombie in check pretty well.

I have no problem with the green light on the treys, however, I did feel like a good number of our treys were rushed tonight, although 6-18 isn't terrible. However, I think if we are just a little more patient and selective we will see that % in the 40-45% as we look to have good shooters.

Also, perhaps working the defense harder we can probably get some better looks inside.

In any case, I think the offense will eventually come together.

A lot of combinations in the 2nd half that we will rarely see in the regular season.

Anybody knows why Burley Brett didn't play?

This was my first look. We were not a really good team tonight, but we have lots of potential. Ellis could be a beast someday. Thomasson and Mekel are more confident and don't hafta keep looking over their shoulder at the bench, JTD is better, slimmer, and quicker than I expected. I was really impressed with Ramon and Mantas. At a minimum, they will provide us with lots of quality minutes. Wendell looks quicker. Hatch has a long way to go. I didn't hate the unis, but in the souvenir shop there is not a thing that is white, nothing. Coach had on a gold shirt and a gold tie. Huh.....strange choices. Video intro is much better. Dancers looked good.

Offensively we didn't look good, I agree. Although our off the ball movement was pretty good and we did miss some bunnies. But had you seen our first exhibition against an even "weaker" opponent you would have been amazed at the difference LOL. I know we will still have our bumps and bruises early, but I really think this team is gonna be VERY dangerous when we hit the Valley.

While obviously the opposition will start getting tougher from here, it appears to me post defense won't really be a problem this year. Scoring in the post maybe, but at least our defense seems to be improved.

I was having trouble telling whether it was our defense that was shutting them down, or just poor shooting. I think that they got some okay looks, along with some contested shots down low. Nothing was going in.

I guess one could attribute that to good defense....

Surprised to see Gal get his shot blocked like he did twice. Thought he might be a bit more savvy. He does have a beautiful stroke when he is wide open.

Great to see Clemente making shots off of the bank on the block. Saw that in his Juco highlights....that will be very hard to defend. Defenders will go for a fake on the block...then see Ramon letting go of the rim to the smell of burning nylon.

Rules Change Question: Have they moved the guys on the lane out a slot away from the Basket on free throws? I did not notice it in Game 1, but it caught my eye last night.

Is this a rule change, or something they were just experimenting with in exhibition games?

I haven't heard anything official on it and am hoping that it's just an experiment. I don't like it.

                            A few of questions:

                            (1) Why all the turnovers for Mekel? Is it lazy passes? Is he forcing things? What is the deal? I like the kid a lot but he has up his assist to turnover ratio.

                            (2) What kind of offense does it look like CGM is running?

                            (3) I know that Durley hit a 3 and had a dunk – but what types of shots is he taking inside?

                            (4) Is Griskenas just not getting any looks? This kid can shoot – he needs to shoot. What is his story? P.S. I love his board work – 8.5 average nice.

                            (5) PT was 3-10? Not too hot for an inside player? Comments? 9 boards is good though.

                            (6) Hatch got quite a bit of time. How did he look?

                            (7) Thoughts on Ellis.

The way the lined up in the exhibition games is how they line up in Women's basketball. I'm not sure what the theory behind that is.

I'm not sure I like it or not. Sure did not hurt the Shocks rebouding last night, although it would seem like it affords the shooting team a greater chance to sneak a player underneath the basket along the baseline for rebounds.

Lining up that way on the block is also a high school rule, no? Sub, can you confirm?
