According to Warren Nolan, last year CU had an RPI of 46 and an SOS of 110.

We currently have an RPI of 47 and an SOS of 123.

Warren Nolan predicts that we will finish with an RPI of 39 and an SOS of 123.

College Basketball was a different scene last year compared to this year. This year all the bracketologists are complaining that it is hard for them to find 64 teams worth of the NCAA Tournament. Last year there was probably 70+ worthy teams.

      Different landscape in my mind.

        Also...

Another difference from last year, wsushox -- at least we hope it will be a difference -- is that last year Creighton weakened its case pretty dramatically during the Valley tournament, first with the dubious win over WSU after blowing a giant lead, then by getting absolutely drilled from the get-go against Illinois State.

If WSU is going to be in the at-large conversation -- and certainly for them to reach the 27 wins I saw them with after St. Louis when I peered into the future recently -- they will by definition have had a far more impressive performance in the MVC tourney than the one that may have been the final straw for Creighton last year.

We are in unless we melt down to end the year. We will be helped by the PAC 10 only getting two teams in as a BCS conference. The Shocks will step up and win the games we should win, and will be playing on Sunday at the MVC conference tournament. We need the favorites to win conference tournaments for the non mid-major conferences.

Shocker fans - cheer hard for the favorites in other conference tournaments!!

Basically we need a perfect dream scenario to unfold to get in if we don't win it all in St. Louis (unlikely).

And as McShocker said, we may need the help of others to get in. We lost control of our destiny with our weak non-con SOS and turd-droppings to Creighton and Drake.

              ... No really, deuces.

I expected this thread to get bumped. I wasn't expecting it quite this soon though..

Well, Preacher, it's possible that the crystal ball I used was cloudy or even chipped; after all, it's hundreds of years old. But having said that, I see no reason to change my forecast.

I didn't pick specific games, just a record. Admittedly, I wouldn't have guessed that the Shocks would have six losses by now, but until WSU hits eight losses, I'll stick with what I said earlier -- and until the Shocks lose in St. Louis (if they do), I won't start anticipating the NIT.

Obviously that was a bad, embarrassing loss. But stuff like that happens on pretty much any given night to somebody, often to several teams, and its significance is hard to judge. What we do know is that it almost certainly ruined WSU's at-large resume. But beyond that, we've seen such losses be a sign of impending collapse, such as WSU suffered a couple of times under the previous coaching regime; we've seen them turn into positive wakeup calls, as the debacle at Springfield last year did; and we've seen them just be random, if nasty, blips after which the team simply went right back to doing whatever it had been doing -- Eddie Fogler's WSU teams had a couple such games. As that famous early coaching guru Sigmund Freud famously noted, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. We just don't know yet, and I for one am willing to wait a few weeks to see what if any impact it will have on this team.

So, unlike the panic-stricken bipolar posters who spent most of last night proclaiming doom and disaster, and generally melting down, Nostradamus has no idea what lies ahead. Actually, our bipolar crowd doesn't, either -- the difference is that I realize it and am willing to keep my wits about me and wait to find out.

If we win out the Valley AND lose to UNI in the finals at St Loo. We will make the NIT and get at least 1, maybe 2, home games.

Watcher, you were horribly wrong and you will be eating plenty of crow. That's the only thing I'll enjoy about WSU not making the NCAA's.

                          Maybe

We'll see, Fever. I may indeed have been way off -- we'll know in a few weeks, and feel free to gloat if it turns out that way. If that gives you pleasure about WSU missing the NCAAs, you're a sadder case than I thought.

                          More Ignoring to be done.

For a guy in a previous thread that said he was gonna ignore, you sure didn't get your own memo well.

It appears you are lacking basic reading comprehension. I'll repeat for your incoherency:

That's the only thing I'll enjoy about WSU not making the NCAA's.
To expand further, I clearly stated that there would be nothing enjoyable about WSU not making the NCAA's EXCEPT you for looking like a complete doofus.

I hope your right, I know before the season I was hoping for NIT. It just shows you how far the team has come!
