Here's an Idea ,, I know it's novel but ,, HOW BOUT WE JUST WIN and put our Conf on the map the way Butler and Gonzaga do ???? We win and take care of OUR business, and there's no need to move anywhere
From the road I listen (Tune In radio) at home I watch ( season Ticks )

God forbid a discussion board is used for discussion.

You are right, though. I'd better start practicing for Wednesday. All I can do right now as a Shockernet poster is win the games that are in front of me.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

This scenario would be an excellent opportunity to move to a better conference IMO (better for baseball, generally better for basketball, better national recognition), and to BRING BACK FOOTBALL!!!
          I hope it happens.

If WSU doesn't position itself, we could find us as the last surviving member of the MoVal. WSU needs to take control and get out of the Valley, and I hope MSU comes with us (nice rivalry with Tulsa and MSU).

I've stated this several times before that the "natural conference" for us to be in sometime in the far distant future is the present Big 12 when it has eventually expanded into the Big 14, Big 16, Big 20, or whatever.

The only way this will ever happen is to bring back (the No-No word) -- football, and temporary move up into a football playing conference til the opportunity presents itself.

I don't think there is any question that Tulsa will one day become a member of the expanding Big 12. Unfortunately, Wichita has always been much more conservative in their general approach and we have been floundering around in the MVC for far too long. But, maybe someday we will finally realize that we can not forever continue to stand pat and we will take the step to move upward and onward.

Is there precedence for a state the size of Kansas to have three schools (all three D1 schools, for that matter) in the same major conference?

The Atlantic 10 has three team just in Philadelphia (La Salle, St. Joe's and Temple) plus another Pennsylvania school, Duquesne.

Yikes. Of course, the A10+4 isn't a "big 6" and rarely are more than one of those three good at the same time (St. Joes and Temple a few years ago). Plus, at 5.8 million, the Philly metro area is more than double the population of Kansas.

Now consider the pecking order of the three football programs in a state our size, if all were in the same conference. I don't think WSU could be competitive without local talent and it will be tough to out-recruit KSU and KU.

While I can't think of a state of similar population to Kansas that has 3 D1 teams in the same conference, that's not to say that state lines are any sort of delineator when it comes to D1 college athletic recruitment.

That said, having 3 major colleges in a state, all in the same conference, probably starts at a population of North Carolina and goes up. And that State's top two schools (and an argument can be made for the third) can and do draw talent nationwide.

Try 4. Wake Forest is in N.C. too.

Actually, I remembered Wake, forgot NC State.

I think NC also invokes the "nationally known private university clause", because I'd guess that a good portion of Duke's student body doesn't even come from the state.

"Realignment news is currently going on in NCAA Basketball. What other scenarios could be beneficial to the sport?

Even during a global pandemic, the NCAA Basketball world continues to move and make headlines, and that was on full display on June 11. With the news that a pair of teams (New Jersey Institute of Technology and Robert Morris University) plan to move to new conferences this coming year, college athletic programs again proved that they are constantly considering new options and avenues. This comes on the heels of overwhelming uncertainty surrounding a season occurring this fall as well as in-class instruction resuming for most college campuses.

Conference realignments are nothing new to college basketball in recent years, as a select group of teams has continued to outplay their conference competition and look for greener pastures to improve their programs.

Reasons for these moves to more prominent conferences include; increased national attention, more lucrative TV deals and exposure for their school, ability to attract higher-level recruits as well as to improve their resume for an at-large bid. The last of which being something many mid-major teams have sought to achieve in recent seasons.

Some successful examples of this from the past decade include Creighton University, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Wichita State University. All of which left their previous conferences (Missouri Valley Conference, Colonial Athletic Association) and have continued to rise as contenders in college basketball despite increased competition and have yielded far more NCAA Tournament appearances since.

                              1. NCAA Basketball realignment scenario – Memphis to the SEC
The first major shift comes with a few caveats. Obviously, corresponding moves would have to be made to make this happen, but Memphis in the SEC as a basketball-only member would be phenomenal for many reasons....

                              2. NCAA Basketball realignment scenario – Loyola-Chicago to the AAC
Currently in the midst of their most successful three year period in program history, the Ramblers have made their way onto the radar of other more prominent athletic conferences after their run to the Final Four in 2018....

                              3. NCAA Basketball realignment scenario – Gonzaga to the PAC-12
Anyone that has ever watched college basketball knows Gonzaga in a conference below their standards. Members of the West Coast Conference (WCC), the Zags have taken home the last eight regular-season conference titles and dominated their opponents in the process....

                              4. NCAA Basketball realignment scenario – Vermont to the A-10
Similar to other teams on this list, the Catamounts of the University of Vermont have found unparalleled success in conference play over the last few seasons...

                              5. NCAA Basketball realignment scenario – New Mexico State to the Mountain West Conference
Fresh off an undefeated 16-0 season in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), New Mexico State is another candidate to move to a more competitive conference. Arriving in 2017 from Bowling Green University, head coach Chris Jans has quickly helped the Aggies regain their seat as one of the most consistent and dangerous mid-major programs in the country...."

                                1. I enjoy watching a good WSU/Memphis basketball game, but with Miller now gone at Memphis, who will lead the charge from the Bench?
                                2. LOLoyla to AAC.... *If* Memphis left *and* the team you pick to replace them is out of the MVC, you're only adding cannon fodder to the league. Last 5 years in the Valley for LOLoyola they had record 106-61. Last 5 years WSU was in MVC they were 152-29. Seeing as Illinois State can almost match that LOL record the last 5 years (at 95 and 72) I'm not so sure this is a good idea.
                                3. Gonzaga to PAC12? They don't play football. Maybe I'm wrong, but every other basketball team in the PAC 12 plays football. Maybe it makes sense geographically, but the Zags would be the best team in that league (basketball). Don't know that it makes sense in terms of TV and revenue either.

The others I don't have an opinion of, so I don't care. Not sure what the point of the article is, but don't see this as well thought out.
