Sorry to see this discussion. After reading the thread title I thought this might be an X-rated discussion.

I think if we can get a quality Juco PG, a red-shirt would be good for both KJ and the Shox.
Not necessarily, I believe that a PG has to be able to shoot too. Answer this question, How many games would we have lost if not for Hannah's shooting?
Manigault, I believe, is much more of a project than what was advertised, and unless he develops a shot, he won't receive serious playing time until he is a Senior, if he sticks around that long.
Hannah has been part of a young, up and coming program these two years. He also been a leader and the only senior on this year's team. We are VERY fortunate to have him. Even though he'll have played here only two years, he will go down as one of the top PGs in are history. Just a tad bit unfair to compare a potentialy good PG with a proven great one.

I don't neccesarily disagree with the rest of your comments. I did say he would need to develop a mid-range jumper to add to his penetration. I do think, by the time KJ is a junior, especially a red-shirt junior, he could be a better defender, passer, and penetrator than Hannah. That wouldn't be bad if he could also get you 6-8 points a game.
There is also a big difference between the way a 5-11 point guard and a 6-4 point guard can play to be effective. In high school, Kenny showed a decent mid-range floater and could attack the rim. Dunking over a post defender is simply not an option for Clevin, but it is for Kenny. Different type of play for different types of players.

The best example I can think of off the top of my head of what Kenny could be like is Rajon Rondo. While Rondo has improved his outside shooting some, he is not a good jump shooter by any stretch of the imagination, but he can attack the rim with his length and set up his teammates to score.

I know this is a message board, and we all get to look forward when we want the team to play the current season, but isn't it a little early to be discussing this?

I mean, we're 18-4, are alone in 2nd at 7-3 in conference, are looking like a solid NCAA/NIT team so far, and have the entire second half of a conference schedule to play.

While I think the potential of this team is limitless in future years, I think it's also important to enjoy the ride this season.

That said, I think it's a little unfair to be judging KM's jumper at this point. He was suspect in high school, but he looks like his form has been improving during the course of this year (granted, this is warm-ups). I still think he only needs to have a mid-range jumper (10-15 ft), because he's so athletic it will be easy to generate the separation necessary to release it.

Sully's said his attitude has been good, and he works reasonably hard in practice, and the last time we saw him in a game, he provided a great spark of the bench. I just get sick and tired of giving up on players after a year or two. We've seen it already with Hatch, Durley, and Miller.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Regarding Demetric and Kenny, I'll bet the farm that one of them either redshirts or transfers.

I think that Kenney's main problem in practice is turnovers. That is a pretty important thing if you want to be a PG. His shooting is a problem too.

Transferring would be diametrically opposed to what Coach Marshall wants to have and accomplish.

In these 2 young men, he has the physical tools needed to succeed at a very high level. I am certain he would consider it a HUGE failure if he loses either of these young men at the end of the season.

Marshal has indicated on talk shows that he is looking very hard for another point guard...which means someone will transfer....This team will be highly talented and very experienced next year...lacking nothing but a proven point....it is an attractive situation for a really good JUCO player (point) to come into and no doubt that is what Marshal is selling...and je's a great seller

Why would that mean someone will transfer? I still don't get that

Unless you have inside information, claiming that someone will definitely transfer is ridiculous. When a team has good depth there is always that possibility, but jumping from possibility to inevitability makes no sense.

In any case, even if we sign a JUCO point guard, I don't know that we would be automatically the starter. Getting a JUCO point is far more an insurance policy against the freshman not being ready next year when we should have a really good team than a definitive statement that they won't be ready by next year.

If he is looking for a Juco PG, then someone is transferring because we don't have the scollie unless they do. If that is true, then Marshall thinks that neither DW or KM will be ready to start next year.

Hannah is the BEST shooter we have this year. What do you think it would be like with a PG that can't shoot well? We, typically, are not the drive and dish team people keep trying to indicate that we will be, and you are not always able to drive to the basket. Our team, could use a lot more 10-15 foot jumpers. (they will change the defense, and open up things for us)

We do in fact have one 'ship to give so signing a JC PG doesn't mean anyone is leaving.

                                Schollie recap:

We are one scholarship shy this season since Coy left the team. With Hannah graduating that gives us two spots to fill next season without anyone transferring.

We can get 2 new players next year. One will be filled by EO.

Dangit, Sub, you beat me to it.
