  • Ehimen Orukpe versus Garrett Stutz

    It was a widely held position by the resident Shocker Net 'experts', that GS would provide the skill and scoring while EO provided the defensive presence.

    At this point I am pretty confident in saying that EO in his Sophomore year, will outscore GS in his Sophomore year.

    I say this because:

    1) I believe EO is smarter than GS.

    2) I believe that EO is more aggressive than GS.

    3) I believe some of the challenges that EO faces against smaller front courts in JUCO ball will be lessened when he matches up with true post players in the MVC.

    4) I believe that EO's athletic advantage over GS is comparable to a Ferrari's performance advantage over a Buick. If EO catches the ball deep enough in the post, he will simply dunk over his defender. If he learns to work his way in and use the glass, look out!

    Garrett Stutz's consecutive scoring in 10 MVC Games:

    5, 6, 5, 2, 2, 4, 3, 2, 2, 4 = 3.5 ppg avg.

    Disclaimer: This post is prophetic.

          Incorrect.

          It's Ferrari over YUGO.

          Sheesh...don't you know anything?

                  Point 1 is ridiculous. You know for a fact that EO's basketball IQ is really high?

                  Point 2 is equally dumb- so EO can't score over 6'6'' and 6'7'' juco post players, but he'll do better against 6'9'' and 6'10'' MVC post players? Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

                  Point 3 is a valid point, but that athleticism hasn't so far translated to putting the ball into the basket, so we'll have to wait and see.

                  GS was injured for several of those games, and he's not getting more than 8-9 minutes a game, so 3.5 ppg is reasonable.

                    Have you accounted for years of experience playing high level basketball?

                    GS = 2.5 years (1 high school, 1.5 college)
                    EO = More than 3...
                    That rug really tied the room together.

                      There were too many postive things said about GS in the game thread so MTXE had to start up a new thread and try to criticize his recent performance.

                      He obviously didn't watch the game last night or else he would have seen that GS did a good job of guarding the post and the perimeter and would have been in the game longer if he wouldn't have gotten whacked in the face. His stat line does not reflect the little things he did to help the team when they needed him.

                        I've said it before and I'll say it again, during GS' recruiting, HCGM stated that if GS is not averaging 20 PPG by his soph season then he isn't doing his job. Is that recruiting coach speak? GS is underachieving? Is HCGM not doing his job with GS? A combination of all the above?

                          EO is a very intelligent individual who comes from a very intelligent lineage. This is well-documented.

                          "Point 2 is equally dumb- so EO can't score over 6'6'' and 6'7'' juco post players, but he'll do better against 6'9'' and 6'10'' MVC post players? Dumb. Dumb. Dumb."

                          It is a known fact that a very big man is at a disadvantage against an entire floor of little men except when he is directly in front of the offensive basket.

                          "3.5 ppg is reasonable."

                          No it is not and the coach doesn't think so either. Backhanded compliments galore sprang from coach after the game regarding Stutz: "He had a good game for him". He's getting limited minutes for a reason.

                              I hope that EO scores more points in his sophmore season that GS scores in his sophmore seaon, but I don't expect it. Actually, you are probably the only person on the board who does.
