I believe that most people who made this type of statement were specifically referring to the performance of GS and EO next year. Which I don’t think is unreasonable under the circumstances: GS will have had a couple of years of D-1 experience under his belt and EO will have had zero.

Going forward, who knows how much EO’s offensive game will improve by the time his second year rolls around. Obviously, GS will continue to improve as well. By essentially stating that, in your judgment, EO might have more upside than GS – well that is not exactly going out on a limb.

Oh..and I don’t claim to be the second coming of Nostradamus. :)
"I believe that most people who made this type of statement were specifically referring to the performance of GS and EO next year. Which I don’t think is unreasonable under the circumstances: GS will have had a couple of years of D-1 experience under his belt and EO will have had zero."

Actually people were already speculating on the twin tower's roles before it was official that EO would go to JUCO.

My thread has not made any new assertions about EO's expected offensive contributions his first year (4-6 ppg expected). It is just another interesting revisitation of prior expectations and eventual resuts.

Most on here would have predicted GS to be at about 10ppg this year and EO to be at around 4-6ppg next year. GS could still increase his ppg before the season is finished, but he will have to continue to refine other parts of his game if he is going to get more minutes.

If GS doesn't red-shirt next year he should lead EO in scoring, but I don't think it will be by much. If Aaron Ellis's minutes are any indication of what HCGM is looking for in a player, EO could be seeing a lot of floor-time if he plays solid defense. That will give him a lot of opportunities to take advantage of a defensive breakdown and the ensuing easy dunk.

If EO comes out of the gate really hot and can actually hold onto the ball, GS could be looking at less minutes than he is getting right now. It will all depend on how practice goes. I can't imagine that GS will be able to score against EO during scrimmages -period (not counting freethrows). Will EO be able to score against Stutz? That will be the key.

This is an old SN topic that Cold started. Some of the things he said back then in 2008 sound similar to what is being said today in this thread.

      Cold in 2008:
While I'm excited about all the players for next year the Nigerian Nightmare is the one I am BY FAR the most excited about. He has the body, coordination, timing, and brain to be a college superstar. He comes fresh off the boat with an attitude, speed, and a 7 1/2 foot wingspan.

In my opinion the entire program should be built around this man, who I think has the capability to take us deep into the NCAA tournament. Nobody is going to have an answer for the Nightmare's defense when he gets polished. Remember, these videos came when he only had played a few times in the States. His learning curve is massive!

      This man is black!

      This man has hops!

      This man is extremely intelligent!

This man is a tiger on the court!

This man has a seven and a half foot wingspan!

This man won't be a pro wrestler!

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-H5WZ1q1lZA
I have already anointed him. He WILL ascend to his rightful position in Shocker History and he WILL learn that you don't "shoot" 2 foot shots... you flush them.
      MTXE today:
I don't know, maybe I'm just a bit partial to Nigerians after watching Dinma Odiakosa play last night.
      1) I believe EO is smarter than GS.

      2) I believe that EO is more aggressive than GS.

      3) I believe some of the challenges that EO faces against smaller front courts in JUCO ball will be lessened when he matches up with true post players in the MVC.

      4) I believe that EO's athletic advantage over GS is comparable to a Ferrari's performance advantage over a Buick. If EO catches the ball deep enough in the post, he will simply dunk over his defender. If he learns to work his way in and use the glass, look out!
I know this doesn't prove anything, but, to me, these 2 posters seem pretty similar -- they both focus on race, intelligence, & dunking.
Thanks for posting this. I have always wondered what this person's posts looked like. I have to say that I agree with a lot of this one. :) However, I hope EO's upside, not his learning curve is massive. :)

        Incorrect.

        It's Ferrari over YUGO.

        Sheesh...don't you know anything?
        That's a bit extreme don't you think?
Clearly you do not "get it".

I'd like to give you a few more years to figure it out, but we have other posters waiting in the wings that provide more cogent and relevant discussions.

Quite frankly your post count has been down the past few weeks and when you do post it is rambling shows a complete lack of understanding of how a message board works.

I've had my eye on a poster over on Kansas.com. He can type about 100 words per minute and quotes Descartes. If you do not improve you'll find yourself sitting on the bench and will be considered one of the all-time greatest "busts" on Shockernet.

GS is doing a fine job, I PREDICT HE WILL REDSHIRT NEXT YEAR, though. It would benefit him very much. Plus we would not have GS and EO graduating at the same time.

I agree, a redshirt would be a good idea if things don't change drastically regarding GS's season. It would be weird though. You don't often hear of players taking a redshirt year in the middle of their careers unless it is due to injury. It would be a very public admittance of failure out of GS in regards to his own and other's expectations at this point of his career.

Who knows though, if EO rolls into Wichita and gives Garrett a whole summer full of pain, GS might even think of transferring. It all depends on what EO brings to the table the summer of 2010. It can't be a bad thing having two seven footer's battling it out for next year's prime spot!

IF GS redshirts, they will exhaust their eligibility at the same time. EO is coming in as a sophomore.

MTXE, did Garrett dump in your cereal or something? I have yet to see you say one positive thing about GS.

Oh! I got it. I bet he took your mother out for a nice seafood dinner, and never called her again!

Go Garrett! I enjoy seeing your effort on the floor... Even if a majority of it doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

Want to know a player that took a redshirt in the middle of their career?

How about Dimna Odiakosa, who was so bad as a freshman that the coaching staff at Illinois State redshirted him as a sophomore and considered the possibility that they might have to cut him loose because they feared he could never contribute.

OK, MTXE, I get it. You don't like white guys. You've gone after Hatch, Stutz incessantly, even Marshall. When are you gonna start criticizing Felter, Mayes, and Brown. You might as well go "all in". We all know the hand you're holding any way.

MTXE, have you waqtched any of TRCC's games this year? They've got a video feed on the net. EO has a lot of upside, but he's a legit 5 points, 5 boards juco center right now. Which isn't much for an athletic 7' guy.

EO a smarter player than GS? That's probably the most ignorant statement I've seen on SN - and that's saying a lot. EO is (and looks like) a guy playing his first year of anything we would recognize as "organized" basketball. What's played in Nigeria uses a round ball, dribbling, and a 10' basket, but that's about the extent of what we'd recognize as basketball.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
