That would be just fine with me. It's a net zero for the RPI, but the press we would get from it would be huge! It would be prime time game, and everyone would be all over it. Also, I don't care how they would beat MSU, they ain't beating us, certainly not in that scenario.

Which means we are in the championship game of the premier preseason tournament in the country, probably against Kentucky or Washington.

I don't know about you, but that works for me.

Listen beating UCONN is one thing, but beating Michigan State is a totally different thing.

Snap is right, beating UCONN will not be an upset. Beating Michigan State would be, and upsets do occur. I'm not traveling all that way thinking we can't win it all.

So far, I think I'm one of the more optimistic fans. Getting to the championship game in Maui isn't something I'm even considering as a possibioity.

I don't think it's going to happen, but if WSU makes it to the championship game, the players will have to deal with the pressure of a high national ranking in addition to the pressure of being the Valley favorite.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

This is a scenario I am also not interested in. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to win the tournament, but I'd rather start showing up in the polls in February. The highlight of the 2006-2007 season was in 2006. I want the highlights of this season to be in March of 2011.

I simply don't understand some of you. I can understand not wanting to peak too early, but not wanting to win early is something completely different.
I'd rather have WSU ranked from beginning to end and peaking in March/April. I hope and will be cheering for the Shox to win it all in Maui.

I dont think they will have a higher national ranking than the cousinard/brauer/ogirri/miller team had even if they win the tournament. not that they dont deserve it.

I agree 110%!!! That sounds like a losers mentality..."I don't want to win now, I want to win later." Sure winning in the tournament means more, but that sure doesn't mean I don't care about the games now. If we want to make it to the tourney, we need to win now!

I'll be in Maui like many other posters on here cheering on the Shox to a win and if we make it to the Tourny I'll be there too!

                      • I agree with Veritas and Marty. Yes I understand your logic, but we shouldn't compare everything with what happened in 2006-07. Just because we catch fire early doesn't mean we can't sustain it. It doesn't automatically mean we're gonna tumble like we did in 06-07.

I certainly could never be happy or hope that WSU ends up with an L in anything, no matter what the potential circumstances.

                        • I want to see three W's in Maui, and I want us to go through the best teams to do it.

Teams are defined by the leaders on them. The team in 06-07 lost focus. Coming off the Sweet 16, they felt like success would fall into their laps. This team did not have the kind of success last year that they would rest their laurels on. In my mind, there are a good number of players on this team (several of them Seniors) that desperately want three things: 1) Win the conference regular season; 2) Win the conference tournament; 3) Win the national title.

They will play hard because in Maui because of the clear opportunities they have, but when conference play starts, they should not forget that their real mission is to win the conference, and win it handily. Each MVC team is an opponent that stands in the way of their 3 goals.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

                          • Why people fear being ranked is beyond me. I've never understood it and never will. Being ranked early and often only helps with recognition and recruiting and can't hurt the confidence level. If the team can't handle it they don't deserve it. That's how it works. This team I believe can handle it with no problems. Lets just go to Maui and show the rest of the country what's up.
