You guys are going to have SO much fun!

    Some quick tips:

    1) Whatever your eating budget is, triple it. You can go to Cosco and stock up on supplies to cook in your own hotel room, but you won't save nearly as much money as you think. Since you aren't going to save that much money PAMPER yourself by eating out.

    2) SUNSCREEN!

    3) If you aren't there long, forget the trip to Hana -- it's awesome but you lose an entire day. Instead, if you are staying in Kaanapali or Lahaina just take the 45 minute trip to: "'lao Valley State Park"

You will get to be in a rain forest, be amazed by the tropics, and only spend a small time getting there and back.

    4) If in the Lahaina area make sure you go to: Leilani's restaurant. Even the late lunch atmosphere was rockin' with super awesome fish tacos (what they are known for).

    5) Even if you don't like fish, get the Mahi-Mahi fish tacos at a good restaurant. They won't have one bit of Wichita, Kansas fish smell/taste. They are super fresh, super clean, awesome food and you will be shocked that you like them. And fish lovers will LOVE them.

    6) Can't beat Mama's Fishhouse, which is only about 15 minutes from the airport. So if you have a late flight back, kill time between your hotel room checkout and waiting on your airplane by going to Mama's Fishhouse for a killer last meal -- possibly the best one you will have in Maui.

    7) The shopping in Lahaina isn't all what it's cracked up to be. Your mileage may vary, but we enjoyed Whaler's Village much more and won't go back to the shops at Lahaina.

    8) If you plan on doing the bike ride down the volcano, stop by Walmart on the way in from the airport and pick up some cheap throw-away jackets, hoodies, warm clothes to wear at the top. No since on packing yours and bringing them from Wichita just to wear them once.

    9) MAI TAI!

    10) Get your rental car from Priceline. I was quoted $480ish per week when I went to Expedia and the other places. So I put in a bid of $28/day for a convertible Mustang which came to about $250 on priceline and it was accepted! Half the price.

    11) DON'T get a Mustang -- they are uncomfortable. Rent an SUV instead -- sit higher in traffic, smoother ride, and more enjoyable when driving along the oceanside. We traded our Mustang up for an SUV and it was the best decision we made.

    12) Alamo seems to have the best deals in the area as far as rental cars.

That's all I can think of for now.
Thanks for all the advice. We scrapped the SUV and went with the Minivan!! If this vans a rocking, don't come a knocking! Can't wait to go!!

Here's my guess for the bracket.......

        TOP HALF
        Michigan State v. Chaminade
        Connecticut v. Oklahoma

        BOTTOM HALF
        Washington v. Virginia
        Kentucky v. Wichita State

I second the part on the eating budget part. In Waikiki last year if our family of four could eat for 60-70 dollars that was a pretty good night.

Another good tip is to look and see if restaurants have early bird specials. This might not always apply due to the schedule of events there but These can save you quite a bit of money. Though they often have a somewhat limited menu the portions are more than hearthy. For example if we had not used an early bird special deal when we were in Waikiki we probably would have had to eat for 80+ dollars.

And Fresh Mahi-Mahi is soooooooooooo good. You also need to try Ahi (Yellowfin tuna) Fish tacos if they have them too.

Also Chrysler rental cars are not a good deal. We had a magnum which is dodge and a Chrysler 300 from Hertz I believe and they were not good cars. Not enough engine power, poor MPG, and terrible turning radius.

Also if you are going to the Big Island don't just stay on the Hilo Side!!! There is a lot of fun stuff to do on the Kailua-Kona side of the Island. namely snorkeling, which is second to none.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

Something tells me we're going to get Washington. I just have a feeling--nothing concrete to back it up. We'll see in a couple of days!

Booked a package for two to Maui yesterday with my brother (no wives) for 7nights at Royal Lahaina which is next door to the Sheraton team hotel with rental car and air fare thru an AAdvantage offer at a cost of $1250 pp Ordered what sounded like possibly the last pair of WSU games only tix thru the ticket office this morning :yahoo: so we are all set to join the :posterwsu: party on the Island!!

So, for those of you still contemplating making the event there are affordable options out to be had.

              :wsu_posters:

It will be a whole lot of fun if we get past Connecticut, if we don't not so much.

I love the Shox and I love Hawaii. That'll be great if the Shox do well, but if not.........I still love Hawaii.

Any updates on tickets or travel from anyone?

RT flights from KC are b/t $800 and $1300 depending upon arrival and departure dates.

I have my hotel set, but I am shopoing for flights.

I am assuming that there are always tickets available somewhere somehow, as there are for any athletic event.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The last person I know who booked was still able to get flight, condo, and rental car package deal for for around $1000 per person. That was flying out of Wichita and staying at Kaanapali Shores for 1 week. I booked mine way back in February, so I haven't really kept track of flights much since then except to help a few friends.

I still find those prices, but they are Weds to Weds, which isn't doable unfortunately. A few days on either end of the travel schedule makes a huge difference.

Yep, there was a pretty big difference when booking Wed. to Wed. so we did it. What dates are you trying to go out?

I have three kids in school, so trying to only miss Monday and Tuesday.

Flights have dropped in just the last day though. For example, US Air has a one-way flight from OGG to KC for just $300 on Thanksgiving day, with only one stop in Phoenix.

                              Any suggestions on game tickets?
