  • Help me out on this hate Creighton thing

Was there a specific incident that started all the hate towards Altman and Creighton? Dana seemed like a good enough guy when he was our coach though he was way over his head in the Big 8. I don't recall him being a whiner or a ref baiter - in fact I would bet most K-Staters thought he was too passive on bench. He has had good success at Creighton and I'm glad for him.
    Just curious. TIA

It's probably rubbed off from CU's fans. CU is a private school, so the students and alumni tend to think they have certain entitlements because of their ability to afford going to CU. They are the arrogant, elitist, self-entitled fans in the MVC. I'm certain there are none of those in the B12.

Some of it is the inability to beat CU for many years. Turgeon was nearly incapable of beating Altman - and that did seem to be the team reflecting the coach.

Then there was the PIG SOOOOEY! day at Arkansas. It was about then that Altman started being a whiner, but he's been around so long that a lot of refs still remember him as a gentle and calm guy. Now he's just a wuss who pouts, whines, and causes refs to ask for a police escort out of Qwest (it has happened).

You can't T a coach up after the game is over, and Altman has chased the refs to their dressing room.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Don't forget the players pointing and laughing at the NIT banner...

"I'm certain there are none of those in the B12." Tongue firmly in cheek I hope. That's why the "We own Texas" chant was so sweet Monday night. No fans in college sports are more arrogant, elitist and self-entitled then Texas fans and it drives them nuts that the poor little "Ag School" in "the middle of nowhere" has been beating them in football (Ron Prince fer Christsakes), baseball and now basketball. Thanks for the info - I had not thought about the private school angle.

It's easy. Since Tulsa and other schools* in the region chickened out from playing WSU in recent years, we had to replace that great, long-standing rivalry with someone.

Creighton's a cheap substitute for Tulsa, but they will do for now. We start a new series with Tulsa soon so expect the ginned-up "hate" to subside.

Yeah but they don't have Nolan Richardson wearing those Gawd-awful ghetto outfits any more. Just won't be the same :)

I'll explain it when you help me understand this:

Why does a GoddardCat feel the insecurity/inferiority to have to post "KSU beats overrated No.1 Texas" blurbs on a WSU article, right out of the gate, on the Eagle's site?

Does WSU really get that much into your head?

Oh well, I'll take it as a compliment.

              ... No really, deuces.

I dislike them mainly because of my multiple run-ins in St. Louis over the last 6 or 7 years with their fans...I can now also add to that list my trip to Omaha last weekend. Granted it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but while at a restaurant after the game a couple yuppie CU fans with their wives pointed out that Wichita to Omaha is a long drive. It was really pretty original.

I've begun to dislike CU strictly because of their baseball program and their antics. Their coach is a whiny ass and when they took the MVC tourney championship against us a few years back and acted like they won the world series pissed me off to high heaven.

I dislike them because CU fans carry themselves with a sense of douchebag entitlement derived from an unknown, and not readily apparent, source.

Combine that with players like P'Allen, coaches like Altman, and dignitaries like Perrault, and you've got one giant turd sandwich that we unfortunately have to take a bite out of at least twice a year.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Stated very simply, in terms that you can easily identify with:

CU is to WSU, as KU is to KSU.

                      Really very similar dynamics.

Add in the temper tantrum that Altman threw when WSU did a 1 game series with Syracruse and 2 for 1 with LSU. Turgeon had those deals blessed by the MVC (it was a time when the MVC cared about non-conference scheduling), but Altman through a big hissy.

Add in the back-door play that CU tried running against WSU in a game where WSU had conceded and was letting CU running the clock down.

Then there seems to be a general hatred/demeaning attitude from Altman toward Marshall. Which I think comes from the fact that most new coaches in the league worship Altman just because this is their first HC job. Of course Marshall is his own man with as much NCAA success as Altman and refused to bow down to the alter of Altman - Altman didn't like that. I suspect this is really showing Altman own insecurity.

I don't think Altman was in 'over his head' at K-State...as I recall he did fairly well there..then K-State slid into the dumper for a prolonged period of time after he left.
