As a student, I see the security guys going three main things:

    1) They warn/eject people who are shouting profanities when there is a lull in the noise (and it therefore obvious who is yelling)

    2) They warn/eject people who shout "balls" after the traditional student chant when an opposing player makes a free throw (a specific example of case 1)

    3) They are there to stop students from rushing the court under any circumstances. I've students try in both the LSU game two years ago and the Texas Tech game.

In all, I approve of these measures. I don't appreciate the swearing. There are more "creative" ways to handle that, as Coach Marshall has said.

I'm ambivalent on rushing the court, but I've heard that it is a no-no as far as tradition goes for WSU.

Actually, could someone tell me if rushing the court is encouraged or frowned upon?

I know there was a debate on rushing the court here a few weeks ago. I can't speak for the University, but I'd be embarrassed if the students rushed the court for anything other than a Valley championship.

Gee. how many ways can you pronounce "P'Allen?" (Not that anyone has ever seen the name before to know based on experience.) So if you're right, shockball, maybe P'unk decided to take a shot at Hall's drink but didn't know which drink was his, so he just decided to clear the table to make sure?

I'm torn between eagerness for P'unk to leave and quit dirtying up the Valley with his childish idiocy, and hoping he stays at Creighton for as long as they'll have him so he continues to screw up their program.
It was his last name that he was mispronouncing. P' Ellen began putting the emphasis on the second sylable, like Tony Dorsett.

I think the student section has been less "vicious" and rowdy than ever before. And this is with a 15-2 team where the students should be going crazy.

I dunno if this is still a hangover from the TCU game or what but it just doesn't seem like the student section is as loud or rowdy as in years' past.

            ... No really, deuces.

              Oh, I see

Thanks for the clarification, shockball. I wasn't able to be at the game and was listening on radio, so I didn't pick up the perceived miscue.

I guess Hall's drink -- and apparently everyone else's too -- paid the price for Stinnett's vanity, much as Creighton's team has.

              P'unk, indeed.

I was the one who started the argument about rushing the floor a few weeks back and I will say that the fine folks on shockernet did change my mind on the subject. We will not rush the floor unless we win a title. The thing i'm more concerned about now is how many students show up in st louis.

I'm in the camp that you only rush the floor for a championship as a general rule anyway, but the added factor at WSU is the elevated front row and guard rail in front of the student section. I think there is wisdom is stopping a large crowd from jumping this hurdle to storm the court from a safety reason, if nothing else. The arena setup is just not conducive to having students storm the court from their section without a major safety hazard, and the related liability issues.
