As a student, I see the security guys going three main things:
1) They warn/eject people who are shouting profanities when there is a lull in the noise (and it therefore obvious who is yelling)
2) They warn/eject people who shout "balls" after the traditional student chant when an opposing player makes a free throw (a specific example of case 1)
3) They are there to stop students from rushing the court under any circumstances. I've students try in both the LSU game two years ago and the Texas Tech game.
In all, I approve of these measures. I don't appreciate the swearing. There are more "creative" ways to handle that, as Coach Marshall has said.
I'm ambivalent on rushing the court, but I've heard that it is a no-no as far as tradition goes for WSU.
Actually, could someone tell me if rushing the court is encouraged or frowned upon?
