  • Whos better? This team or 2006

Not to jump the gun, but I was just thinking, if this year's team played the 2006 team, who do you think would win?

I think this team is better at this point in the season than the 2006 team.

The 2006 team had the seniors, but this team has the depth.

The 2006 team had Miller inside, but this team has much more depth.

    Couisnard vs Moure
    Turgeon vs Marshall

I think if I had to pick a winner, I would take this year's team.

There's just something about this team that seems so much more for real, even though the 2006 team accomplished a sweet 16.

I'm just curious what everyone else thinks.

When we make the Elite 8, this team is!
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

I think everyone would agree the 2006 team played up too and above there selves in that special season

This team seems to me to be playing well, with more potential to be reached

I like the way the future is shaping up.

I like this team alot. I think our current backcourt gives Brauer and Ogirri fits. I'd still take Couisnard (sophomore) Miller (senior) and maybe Wilson (junior) on this team. Ultimately, it's a who's better: Mighty Mouse or Superman argument.

It's tough to say at this point in the season. We'll know more once Valley play starts.

I love both teams. I'm beginning to have more confidence in the talent and depth of this team. Don't know if they can match the "magic" of the 06 team?

Aren't we fortunate to be in this discussion? What a decade.

I think before you crown this team - you have to see what they do during MVC play. Conference play is much more different (and difficult).

Exactly. We absolutely MUST hold our own in Valley play, which is much more difficult night in and night out than our Non-Con schedule has been. I do think that this team has the character and ability to do it but it hasn't happened yet.

The 2006 team was very special. Most importantly they played like a team in every aspect. They also went into March on a roll. I hope that happens with this team too.

It will be fun to watch and see.

I think I alluded to the fact that people would start saying crazy things after a Tech win...

Ahhh nevermind. This team is really good.

This team seems to have more upside., FWIW.

I agree. I think this team is more talented, but what happened in 2006 was just special and really was about a team getting on a roll at the right time.

Sorry, but I think the 2006 team wins by 4. Our current team has more weapons, but the weapons on the 2006 team fired better. Matty B shot good, Wilson was a hot 3 shooter, plus PJ. Ogirri could light it up.

The 2006 team banded together with lots and lots of heart. Our current team has heart, but not as much as the 2006 team did, at least not yet.

I agree though, I think our current team is further along at this point in time than the 2006 team. I love the depth of our current team, no letdowns with substitutions. You get different aspects of the game with our 3 (Hatch/Kyles) and 4 players (Ellis/Blair) as well as Durley and Stutz.

I think that there are 2-3 individuals who deserve consideration to have jerseys raised in Koch from that 2005-06 team, and 1 in particular.

Each of them played at least 3 years, and NONE of them transferred from the university. The "1 in particular" overcame lots of obstacles, including a broken foot early in his freshman season (thank goodness for that, he had a full additional year to develop into a fine player).

                              But I digress.........

Right now, this team is more of a team........you can key on certain players, but others have been stepping up to overcome off-nights by the others.

I think a Turgeon-coached team loses to Tech last night, for two big reasons.

                              1. Not quite enough talent
                              2. Not quite enough good coaching decisions (sorry Turg, I still respect you, but.........)
