  • And it keeps getting better, this time courtesy of Mr. Elgin (having lost what credibility he had with me, will be referred to from here on as "Little Dougie") jumps in the battle:

“My take is that unless it is absolutely necessary, you do not make a technical call late in the game,'' Elgin said. “I just think that it's always best when you let the game get decided by what happens on the court.

“There might be instances where a technical has to be called but, from what I've seen in this case, I think it was a mistake to call it.''

Funny how Elgin was quick to defend the refs for their decision making in the CU-WSU games in the MVC tourney, but turns on them as soon as they make a call against Dana.

      • Elgin said he holds officials accountable for their actions, just as he does coaches and student-athletes. Elgin said if it's deemed that Gaston's actions were inappropriate given the situation, the referee could face discipline ranging from a private reprimand to suspension.
        Ridiculous.

        • Elgin is mostly right, IMO. If all Altman did was swing his arms, the T should not have been called.

But Elgin needs to be consistent and admit that the 2nd T on Marshall in the Valley tournament should also not have been called.

          • Think Marshall noticed this garbage? Of course... and Im sure the other coaches have too. The games against CU may get VERY ugly this year.

              I look forward to it!

              • Is anyone really surprised by this? Don't ever expect a Valley administrator, especially little dougie, to back WSU or Marshall on anything. There is no way in heck little dougie would back Gregg if this happened. His comment would be "Well, the refs do a great job and we should all be happy to have such a great bunch of officials. They have a really hard job to do." Isn't it funny how whenever something questionable happens with CU involved, there is never an accurate angle or video available (i.e. the clock incident, Diana Sooey's tirade on the sideline...) I guarantee you he was stomping and whining and NOT in the coaches box.

                    • For anyone that may be able to better articulate the dismay of the ShockerNation about this obvious bias and favoritism and BULL$H!T, I have included some key contact information:

                      Little Dougie - elgin@mvc.org

Patty Viverito - Senior Associate Commissioner -- pattyv@mvc.org

                      Joe Mitch - Associate Commissioner -- mitch@mvc.org

Rich Steed - Mens BB Officials -- finance@mvc.org

Bobby Thomas - Mens BB Officials -- bthomas@mvc.org

                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am taking the high road for now, even though I am one that felt ADES didn't do enough, and took the b!tch road about the clock in St. Louis, I think a bombarding won't do as good as a couple well articulated, to the point, fact backed emails.

Everyone got fired up to get behind Mrs. Marshall, time to get behind Coach Marshall and make sure everyone at the MVC office knows everything from this point forward will be scrutinized like the Zapruder film by Shocker fans and others in the Valley to make sure the Officiating and BracketBusters, and everything else is on a level playing field.

                      • I definitely do not agree with the commish's handling of some of these issues, but I think a lot of it has to do with this being a "non-conference" game. It's easy for Elgin to side with sCUm on this because GMU isn't a Valley team. I don't think he wanted to get in the middle of WSU and sCUm in St. Louis.. which is still, in fact, weak.

Sorry, Fever, who was it who dragged ADES to the trailer to TELL HIM there was "NO CONTROVERSY!"

The only person not in the middle was ADES after being TOLD what was going to happen.

You're right but Elgin tried to remain as neutral as possible... so that's why he left it up to the officials at the game. Sure he reviewed it and what not, but that was to appease WSU. He's a coward for that no doubt, but that's my opinion on why he's more PR about sCUM-GMU.

                            • But these were Valley officials in the GMU game. And he is going public threatening to suspend or reprimand privately if "review of the play determines the official was wrong.

There was no "Formal" review of the final 1.9, and he didn't threaten to take action of any kind if (when) it was determined that the clock did not start promptly.
