    True Story:

Took my sister-in-law with us to a game last year, and was trying to explain the "Stand for Defense" while clapping and cheering. Told her we stand til they score. They scored a FT. She sat, I said sorry, til they score a Field Goal. She said what about goaltending?

Actually, you only sit when the opposing team scores. But in the event it is a free throw, everyone remains standing until the first "field goal." However, if the field goal occurs and it is the third Thusday of a month that ends in "r" then...

        Is it really that difficult?
This did not require your smart a$$ answer. NO, it's not that difficult and I am not stupid. However, if the "Stand for Defense" has never been precisely explained other than "Stand for the Defense" you might see how someone just might feel it a little odd that you stand and clap until your OPPONENT scores, but not until your own team scores.
