Where does the blame go for here? Is it ultimately the athletic department?

I have heard from some people that "back in the day" students filled 3 whole sections behind the scores table. Obviously that can't happen due to the corporate seating....but I do feel it is ridiculous for our student section to be only half full. It should be full every game--and especially for big games. Have some spirit and pride in your own university. The community does.

Unfortunately I do remember the last time I left early (Creighton game, overtime, Matty B game winner with 5 seconds left on clock). I was late for an appointment that afternoon (because of the length of the game with overtime and all) and just could not stay longer. Was on my way up the hill to the parking lot when I heard the roar, looked back at CKA and SWEAR the roof lifted a foot in the air.
Our row is much the same. Nearly all the row stays till the end every night. On the other hand, the row in front has some who will leave 3-4 minutes early in a tie game against the likes of Creighton. Can't imagine why you would come if you don't want to see the end of a game like that. One night my wife shouted "how can you leave?". The guy just turned and shrugged his shoulders.

We had season tickets the last 3 years of Antoine Carr's career, then had to give them up for some time due to finances. We got them again the year Randy started his coaching stint here and have had them since. I have to say that we have never left a game early regardless of the score or the opponent, whether it was the season ticket years or the years when we got single game tickets. Just cannot imagine not seeing the end of the game regardless. I want to see everybody on the team play and see how the reserves are coming along. Just can't force myself to pay money to see a game then leave early.

Even if the Shox are getting their butts kicked, I'll stay if just to cheer them and hopefully let them know we are still behind them.

Just for the record, that game was an 8:00pm tipoff. I don't think it got over til around 10:15. I dunno what appointment you had around 10:15 at night..
I'm not arguing with you -- but I do know it was an afternoon game and I was really thinking it was a Sunday afternoon. Could have sworn it was the Creighton game -- I am absolutely certain it was an overtime game and that Matt hit the winning shot.

I recall watching that game on TV and am fairly certain it was an afternoon game. It's possible that it was originally a Saturday evening game but was moved to accommodate FSN.

The attendance was almost as bad as the hour delayed UAB game that happened in the 07-08 season. Monster Blizzard on that day..there were drifts in El Dorado that completely covered cars. I was still there that game though!

Can't remember many overtime games involving Matt B. game-winners other than the Valentine's Day Massacre on Tuesday night February 14th, 2006.

We drove in from Buhler that day, not wanting to waste our money by not using the tickets. Everything was fine until we hit Maize. We get into Wichita (when the storm and accumulation were at their worst) and can't find a place to eat because you either couldn't get into parking lots or employees had been sent home. Fortunately my wife has family in NE Wichita and we were barely able to get there and regroup and stay the night. Enjoyed the game but in retrospect we should have stayed home.

You might be thinking of the double overtime SIU game. That was either an 11am or 1pm start. PM hit for 30 that day and IIRC Matt hit a big shot in the 1st overtime, but wasn't the game winner.

My recollection is clearly wrong, since that game was indeed on a Tuesday evening.

What is it about V-day and CU in Wichita? I believe it was also V-day at the cow palace when we beat #12 CU in 2003.

I was one of those students that use to fill 3 full sections "back in the day". It is pitiful to see the student support today. We had to wait for hours in line for season tickets that we paid for and still ended up in row 27 after the fraternities bought theirs.

I will admit, it's hard to get up for games against these types of teams. The outcome is already predetermined, even before tipoff. No, I don't come to see the opponents, I come to see the Shox. But honestly, it's hard watching such sloppiness, because I do feel the sloppiness of these teams affects WSU.

The crowd was apathetic for much of the game last night. Granted, in the first half anyways, the Shocks weren't giving anybody much to be happy about. I dunno how many more traveling calls or weak whistles I could take. It is hard to make an atmosphere with that crap.

What I don't understand is a half EMPTY student section. FREE tickets go unused is a disgrace. Paging Mr. Fastbow..
I can remember the days, when less than 100 students would show up for a game. And it was during the Coach Turgeon years.

I remember "back in the day" when there was such a demand for student tickets that a tent city went up in front of Levitt arena the night before student season tickets went on sale. That's right, we camped out for the right to BUY season tickets. At the time I was taking one graduate school class for only one reason... to have that student ID so I could get tickets! Section S, row 3 right by Antoine's mom... didn't get any better than that!
