Personally, I have plenty of reasons to hate Creighton regardless of your or anybody else's feelings on the matter:

    - Dana Altman is the last person I would want to be the face of the Valley. A whiney coach who crumbles when the real pressure is on. I have only two words for him: Pig. Sooey.

    - P'Allen Stinnett is a punk. Pure and simple. He showboats. He whines to the refs. He plays dirty. The last time Creighton beat WSU at WSU he punked out the student section after the game, but no, there's no rivalry here.

    - Creighton always seems to have one extraordinarily ugly and/or stupid player who sees huge minutes. This year it's Wragge. Before it was Nate Funk. Before that it was the genius who got the double eye infection because he didn't know to clean his contacts with saline.

    - Korvers. Cripes, when will they stop breeding?!

    - The Altar Boy Defense they run. If they got called for half the fouls they committed, they'd have to forfeit by halftime.

    - I'm Kansan, they're Nebraskan.

    - I'm Lutheran, they're Catholic.

Frankly, I'm elated at their start. I think we have a good chance to beat them down here, and then turn around and beat them down worse at their place.

If Creighton doesn't want to rise to the bait, that's fine. If they don't want to care about playing WSU, great. Of course, that nonchalance is probably a clue as to Creighton's stellar postseason record.

    • I have trouble getting into the "rivalry" thing with CU.

A rivalry is beating a school and feeling good about the season regardless of your record (i.e. Michigan beating Ohio State, K-State beating KU, Yale beating The Crimson).

To me CU is simply another school in the MoVal that I want the Shox to beat. The true rival - if you want to call it that - of WSU is any school that might be above them in the standings.

CU is a fine, small private school located in a nice mid-size urban area that overall does a pretty good job in basketball (note: Not a GREAT job, but pretty good). Most of their students are struggling to get by in college similar to a lot of students at most schools. Generally, they're not trust fund babies, don't have silver spoons in their mouth, and don't feel entitled - at least they shouldn't feel entitled. They play in a nice rented arena close to campus and generally have some pretty decent fans.

Let's face it... Calling CU a rival of WSU is complimenting CU beyond anything they've ever accomplished. The Shox and Shocker fans have greater goals than simply beating CU. CU is like all of the Valley schools which are simply a stepping stone on which the Shockers place underfoot as they continue to climb higher than most if not all Valley teams.

Besides, I kind of feel sorry for Creighton.

      • MTXE doesn't get it.

Creighton claims to be academically superior to WSU (among others) but forgets, for example:

        (i) its own hypocrisy (e.g. Ricky Ross http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~wcd/ressent.htm);

(ii) its own relative lack of graduate programs (CU has no PhD programs while WSU has 7 plus Audiology - AuD, Educational Leadership - EdD, Nursing Practice - DNP, Physical Therapy - DPT, School Psychology - EdS, etc. [ http://www.creighton.edu/fileadmin/u...y_07092009.pdf; http://www.creighton.edu/gradschool/...rams/index.php; http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=gradschool&p=/GradPrograms] ).

Academically, I don't consider Creighton to be a rival; the best WSU students become professors at universities like GU (http://explore.georgetown.edu/people/mme4/), Arizona (http://math.arizona.edu/people/profile.html?n=leonk, http://www.math.arizona.edu/~leonk/cv.pdf), etc. Speech pathology (Communicative Disorders and Sciences) graduates, engineering graduates, chemistry graduates, etc. are professors at universities around the country.

You have noted that you think that demonstrating an obsession towards CU is something you think the WSU fan base should avoid.

At the same time, you arguing for multiple days with the rest of Shockernet is the sole reason that there is a 5 page thread about CU at the top the basketball forum.

          Think about it.

Interesting point, but a bad one.

MTXE has the right and self-obligation to defend accusations leveled against him.
Except that his whole point was that continuing what he saw as a silly debate (whether CU vs. WSU) is a rivalry was counterproductive. He suggested that WSU fans just drop the issue. We criticizes others for not dropping the issue and having to respond to anything CU fans say or do, but can't drop the issue himself.

He certainly has the right to continue the discussion, just as those bickering with CU has the right to do that, but in using that right he is falling prey to the same things he bemoans in the first place.

It was Kevin Ross. Ricky could have easily been taken advantage of by the CU faculty, but Ricky really never showed much inclination to learn off the court. Kevin.......now that was a different story. It just wasn't the right environment for him.

                      • Pretty funny article here where Doc Sadler, Nebraska's basketball coach, says that all Creighton basketball fans are Nebraska football fans and that is why they have such a good home court advantage. He says that Tom Osborne should be thanked for giving them that history as a good fan base. He goes on to say that a win over Creighton means nothing to the NCAA and only brings satisfaction to their fans. Pretty funny stuff.
