This is a prime example of what I meant by "showing your cards". You think you are "getting their goat" by referencing past negative actions by CU fans in an attempt to infer that this proves a rivalry exists.

By using the concept of a rivalry between the two schools as a point of mockery, you in effect are saying to them that we admit it is humiliating for you (Creighton) to think of yourselves as rivals with us, so we are going to use everything negative you say or do about us as further evidence that said rivalry exists.

Therefore, regardless of whether or not a rivalry is ever proven, we are willing to validate that: a) you are embarrassed to admit there could be one, and b) we are acceptive of the idea that Creighton's "stature" could allow them to be legitimately embarrassed of ANYTHING Wichita State in the first place.

Anybody remember the boy in class who always went after the girl that was way out of his league only to be shot down in front of everyone? Then instead of licking his wounds or refining his approach, he accepts that he has no chance and decides instead to irritate the girl by increasing his advances ten fold.

At this point his only goal becomes to validate his existence using the only weapon he thinks he has, her disdain for him. To him negative feedback is a more satisfying alternative to indifference. Perhaps the girl was just embarrassed at the onset. Regardless of the initial reality of the situation, the insecurities in the boy forced him to create a realty whereby his inferiority is now publicly assured.

Do I think this story illustrates the public perception of how the WSU fanbase relates to the CU fanbase? Absolutely not! Do I think that the whole "not a rivalry" schtick potentially places us as the boy in the story whenever it is used? Very probably.

Do Wichita State a favor, do the Shocker Nation a favor -Let-it-go!
Okay, MTXE, if that is in fact your real name, I have a question for your sharp, Psych 101-loaded mind: Why do you care?

Creighton's disdain of WSU isn't imagined, it's quite real. From well-referenced occurences of denying that we are "rivals" to referring to the Creighton@WSU game as "Your Super Bowl," the message is quite unambiguous.

And how does one "prove" a rivalry? I'd say opponents running each other down months before a game is played (and months after) is fairly strong, if circumstantial, evidence of a "rivalry." In fact, it may be the only available evidence ever. This isn't some contract that both parties have to sign up for. We don't like Creighton. If they don't return the antipathy, that's fine. Once we demolish them a few seasons in a row, that will change. Or maybe it won't. Maybe they really are good Catholic kids who wouldn't harm a fly. If so, good for them. Regardless, I'm perfectly happy with them not thinking twice about WSU, as long as we beat them every single time.

This isn't some sort of WSU inferiority complex manifesting itself, it's NORMAL FAN BEHAVIOR. It doesn't need to be analyzed or corrected in any way. We LIKE it this way. It's FUN. I LIKE chanting "Left, Right" when somebody fouls out not because I feel sorry for myself for some reason, but because it's FUN.

So, back to my question, why do you care about this '"not a rivalry' schtick"? Are you embarrassed by our actions? If so, I do believe that is your problem and not ours. Do you think this lowers the level of discourse on this board? Perhaps, but then again you should have seen the old ValleyTalk. This is Plato's living room in comparison. Do you think this is hindering the WSU men's basketball program in any way? How can building anticipation for a conference game be a bad thing?

Dude, do yourself a favor and YOU let it go.

      :wsu_posters: :yahoo:
I'm sorry I wasn't able to get my point across to you. I tried to make it exceedingly clear for all to understand. I must assume that many who commit this act of which I criticize, would be hard pressed to understand my complaint. However, I can assure you that many Creighton fans don't. Keep trying to "convince" them of a rivalry. They will continue to sit back and enjoy the compliment.

      Carry on.
      Way to go Matt! Solid!

Personally, I have plenty of reasons to hate Creighton regardless of your or anybody else's feelings on the matter:

          - Dana Altman is the last person I would want to be the face of the Valley. A whiney coach who crumbles when the real pressure is on. I have only two words for him: Pig. Sooey.

          - P'Allen Stinnett is a punk. Pure and simple. He showboats. He whines to the refs. He plays dirty. The last time Creighton beat WSU at WSU he punked out the student section after the game, but no, there's no rivalry here.

          - Creighton always seems to have one extraordinarily ugly and/or stupid player who sees huge minutes. This year it's Wragge. Before it was Nate Funk. Before that it was the genius who got the double eye infection because he didn't know to clean his contacts with saline.

          - Korvers. Cripes, when will they stop breeding?!

          - The Altar Boy Defense they run. If they got called for half the fouls they committed, they'd have to forfeit by halftime.

          - I'm Kansan, they're Nebraskan.

          - I'm Lutheran, they're Catholic.

Frankly, I'm elated at their start. I think we have a good chance to beat them down here, and then turn around and beat them down worse at their place.

If Creighton doesn't want to rise to the bait, that's fine. If they don't want to care about playing WSU, great. Of course, that nonchalance is probably a clue as to Creighton's stellar postseason record.

The working class SIU fan can be counted on to be drunk, ugly and in plaid at the Valley tournament. The CU fan can be counted on to be in J. Crew, drinking wine and walking around with an overwhelming sense of entitlement. The former sound like my family, the latter sound like people that should be eliminated. That's why I hate CU more than SIU.

This type of reaction totally gave your fandom away. People continually to ask you why you care so much regarding this topic and you have avoided the question like it never existed. You care so much because you're a sCUm elitist and refuses to accept any possibility of a "rivalry". Why does this bother you? Who knows? But it does, and this is proof. It happens all the time to sCUm fans and you're proving it with each continual post.

sCUm fans make more of a deal out of it not being a rivalry than the other way around. I've visited the RainbowCafe. The hate and jealousy surrounding WSU in there is incredible. In fact, it rivals to that of Nebraska. I honestly didn't think the disdain was that strong, but to my surprise, it is. And only an insecure sCUm fan would take the time to respond the way you just did. If it truly wasn't a big deal to you, you wouldn't have wasted about 3 hours of your life, 5 of your 20 posts, and your 5-paragraph drafts on it.

And to top it off, everytime you are called out for being a pathetic sCUm fan posing as a WSU fan, you run away and hide and don't even confront the issue. You know why? Because it's true and you're too big of a pansy to man up and admit it, much less acknowledge it.

What a pathetic specimen you are.
