Detroit's coach, Ray McCallum, may very well be a good floor coach, but it appears to me that he's more of a good recruiter. He had a very successful 7 years at Ball St, left for Houston for 4 years where had only a .376 winning %, and went back to being an assistant at OU and Indiana.
Last year he became Detroit's HC in a conference, if minus Butler, would be much the same level as Ball St's conference and lost 23 games (with players who weren't his). Yes, he has two very nice players coming in for 2010, but hasn't shown me much beyond coaching at a Ball St level and a good assistant coach.
Don't disagree. Just sayin' he has shown a lack of success at the upper mid major level and went back to being a BCS assistant coach (which he was before the Ball St job) with good contacts and recruiting history. I'm not ready to say Detroit's going to "dominate" Butler unless Butler takes a few steps back to the pack.
