I think WSU baskeball games need more non-descript horn blowing, a la Mexican soccer. Can someone get the band to do a bunch of that, because I don't think basketball games are nearly annoying enough.

So far this year the band is weak. There are some trumpet solos where the sound of the horn never made it to my section. It's like some members of the band are timid or holding back.

The band isn't as tight or well-rehearsed as last year. I was just chalking that up to it being early in the season.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I loved playing, but man the team was just plain terrible during my tenure in the band. The guys in '06 sure must have had a great time traveling with the team to the Sweet 16. Hopefully the current band will get some post season opportunities too.

I can tell you that I caught a lot of flack from the athletic dept. over the music when I ran the band. They really wanted some new music, so I joined this forum and asked what you guys wanted to hear. I took suggestions and got some arrangements of a few that would actually translate to a pep band. We played them during a couple games and I usually got a "What the hell was that!?" from the other end of the headset. So we stopped playing them. No matter how old a song may be, there are some that are just great pep band tunes.

As far as the alumni not being in the band, I wish they were still there. Some of those guys had been playing in that band for so long. They did it because they loved it. They were asked not to come back as they were making it a student only group the year after I left. My problem with that is that they kicked out some great players but let the new director's father (not a student) play in it. Not sure how that works.

it was great to see them destroy Seton Hall and then beat Tennessee. Wish I could have gone to DC. I did have the luxury of watching that game in San Diego, with 5 other random Wichita State fans.

I know a guy (WSU staff member) who was kicked out. He is a pretty good player.
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."
