  • I guess Marshall is on the HOT SEAT this year....

According to what this blogger mentioned about the Sporting News basketball preview:

The Best Coach to place on the HOT SEAT, thankfully isn't JL, it's Gregg Marshall of Wichita State.
That's about the funniest thing I've read. I think he's got at least 1-2 more years before he would be on the "Hot seat" if the teams didn't produce. But I don't think that's a worry LOL.

They also picked the Valley like this:

    UNI
    CU
    ISU(red)
    SIU
    WSU
    BU
    ISU(blue)
    DU
    UE
    MSU

    Here is the blogger's article:

The Sporting News Preseason College Basketball issue is out... and I can save you all the time and trouble if you're interested....... other...

I don't think he's on the hot seat preseason. I think expectations are higher this year though. This is pretty much his team, with only one real contributor gone. I think we need to be in that 18-20 win range with this squad. Might be nice to win a game in the Valley tournament that wasn't on Thursday too. Anything past that is gravy. Anything under that I think has to be looked on as a disappointment.

Considering Marshall's first actual recruiting class are Soph's this year, I can't see him being in any kind of hot seat quite yet.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Dont see him on the hot seat with Orupke coming in and a high quality recruiting class for our future!

I wouldn't label it a "hot seat," as his job should in no way be in jeopardy this year or even next year.

The team does need to show improvement though, like playing the whole game and not just the second half, plus a tournament win or two, or three.

It seems that GM is starting to be recognized as being an excellent recruiter. To validate this, it sure would be helpful if two or more of this year's recruits bloom early, perform well, and show a great deal of promise.

This should be a very fun year, but we will probably still have a few bumps and grinds. We just need to keep them to a minimum.

I am not sure who came up with the hot seat idea, but he is way nutz.

Even in two years, Coach Marshall will not be on the hot seat for any reason.

Based upon the facts before us, I think the idea is ludicrous.

If this team underperforms last year's squad, then things will get rough. If in two years things are maintained on the same trajectory, they'll be preparing his bronze cast. If things get rough, he'll be run out. I think all signs point to the former being more likely than the latter. The point I was trying to make is that expectations are higher now.

The Hotseat is BS and just an attempt to twang on our strings.

talked to marshall last year at rocking the roundhouse and he predicted a .500 team (15-15).. this year, he said that he expected 23 wins, and that the loss of coy was no big deal - that we have plenty of depth.

I like that. I believe it's the highest number of predicted wins that's been posted on SN! I'll go along with it and agree.

Expectations will be higher than the past. If the team doesn't perform, there will be some some backlash. But they will perform and have a good year.

How does predicting a 0.500 team square with 23 wins? Will the Shockers play 46 games this year?

That was a review of the Sporting News College Basketball Preview issue, not the opinion of any blogger.
It is the writer from the Sporting News who selected Marshall as the Valley coach on the hot seat.
I think virtually all informed people know GM is not on the hot seat, but the need to write things and sell magazines causes silly things to end up in print.

You must have missed the "last year" for the .500 and the "this year" for the 23 wins. Read it again.

Actually, the first time I read it, I got the same thing RRD did. When it didn't make sense, I read it again and then understood. Punctuation threw me off.

We won 2 games at the last tourny. Now if we are allowed to play Saturday!
