Assuring the new baseball facility additions got done and fundraising was completed during the worst economy since the great depression is a major accomplishment.

I gave him an "A" because
> New women's tennis coach looks great on paper.
> Financial issues are OK; coaches and ES are working together to reduce costs but not quality.
> Jody is a potential issue which he is watching; if this blows up (which I don't expect), I'll change my vote.
> Baseball construction in progress.
> As far as I can tell, Athletics staff are OK with him. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I graded and posted my reasons before reading other posts. To me, a good AD (1) selects coaches (2) raises money (3) makes sure NCAA rules are followed (4) manages with a light hand unless problems occur. I was worried about his selection of new coaches but the new woman's tennis coach looks good on paper and I've heard good things.
Young was going to OSU; WSU couldn't compete on a financial or facilities basis. Young was from Oklahoma and has family there, if I recall correctly.
If Sexton can keep Marshall & Stephenson happy and productive, why should he step into the Coy mess? Do we want a heavy-handed AD who makes Gregg or Gene unhappy? (If you think Gene couldn't leave WSU, imagine if you are the AD of a California school (LBSU, UCI, Pepperdine, Fresno State, Cal Poly, etc.) who wants a shot at a CWS title and can find donors. If Gene put out the word that he'd like to go to California (or Florida or Texas or ??), a smart AD would snap him (& Kimnitz) up in a second if there is a vacancy.)
The shot clock issue bothers me too. If the MVC commish "owes" Eric now, then maybe he can cash in that chip when we need help from the MVC.
Overall Sexton is doing his job. As far as I know, the coaches like him. He apparently decided to cut each sport a little, unlike other Valley schools like UNI (baseball) and Indiana State (tennis?) which cut sports. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

2. Was Sexton involved in making these promises? Did Coy go to Sexton for help? Did he get it?Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

Spangler - That's why I said if. We will most likely never know one way or the other from the coaching staffs and the AD's office. :noidea:
However, the one side we did hear from, bias or not, indicated this had become a problem. Therefore, my post.
I do feel DUshock is right on. We give an experienced coach at least one or two years, if not 3, before passing this kind of overall judgement. Being an inexperienced AD, I think ES should get the two years at minimum.

Pretty normal distribution curve.
While I gave him a D, I have faith in him to learn the job. He apparently is good at raising money.
There are a few little snafus that continue including late roster updates on the website, and few snags on the new field at Eck.
He seems to be one heck of a nice guy...
Upcoming big challenges:
-- Answering the football question
-- Keeping Lambo and Gregg at WSU
-- Positioning WSU to move up to a better conference
-- Adding additional sports for both men and women (Swimming, Lacrosse, Soccer, Hockey, Field Hockey ???)
-- Looking and planning for a replacement for Stephenson when/if he retires within the next few years
-- Growing the amount of donations for WSU athletics
Current minor issues:
-- Learning from the JC/Gene-Gregg fubar and negative press which resulted
-- Learning from Jody's basketball issue and the negative press which resulted
-- Maintaining NCAA controls
-- Looking to open a state of the art women's volleyball facility that'd hold approx 4-5,000
-- Positioning WSU to host NCAA games at IBA which results in national name recognition for the Shox
-- Opening an athletes dorm on the WSU campus
He took over an athletic department in very good shape. As JS made the Shox even stronger, I'd like to see ADES do the same.
Peace...

I can tell you that (lower level) Athletics staff do not like Jody or her staff. I don't know the details but I think we'll hear more about Jody in the future. Apparently Marshall gets along better with the Athletic staff now than he did when he arrived. Gene and the AD staff are OK (once you learn how to deal with Gene - do the job and he's happy.)Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

Perhaps Coach Adams and her staff take things a bit more seriously than some "lower level" staffers are used to?
I have found Jody and her staff engaging, professional, passionate and friendly (in a serious sort of way) in my very limited interaction with them.
Frankly, I'm not sure it's all that important if "lower level" staffers like any of the coaches or not.

I do not know much about volleyball, but I like Veritas' idea about a world class volleyball facility.
I have spoke to Coach Adams on one occasion and I was most impressed by her answers to questions and her attitude in answering them. She was engaging and forthright.
First impressions are usually lasting impressions.
I suggest we be a little slow in dumping on her."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

Allow me to add that I don't think you have to be a ***** to be a successful coach (or successful anything for that matter) but you MUST be demanding and have expectations AND accountability.
Nothing I have seen from Gene, Gregg or Jody leads me to think anything is different in their programs from those ideals (although I'll admit Gene could use a Miss Manners class or 2).
