  • WSU to launch new logo

An excuse to get new gear!

As part of an overall strategy to create a comprehensive visual identity system for the university, a new logo has been introduced at Wichita State University. The logo and visual identity system that supports it will be available by Sept. 14, although it will be a phased implementation during several years.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

The bottom is the new one apparently.

The older logos reflect the nature of a stalk of wheat flexible and flowing. I can understand the difficulty of reproducing those thin lines in various media.

The new logo looks less flowing with less movement. I like the wheat, but the letter is too thick and chunky for my tastes. It looks bloated and slow.

Either way, it was done locally and cost a lot less money than the McDonald's "box of fries" we got from the NY agency a few years back.

The logo contest they had in the Eagle was pretty cool. My favorite of those was the stylized human figure holding a scythe.

Looks like they are heading more towards a gold color rather than a yellow color. Not bad.

              From the WBJ ...

The new logo will be featured on the artificial turf that is being installed at Eck Stadium. It will be one of the first uses for the new logo.

At first impression, I like the "black only" better than the black and gold (oops, yellow). It's less cluttered. There's also something about the W, or is it an upside down "m"? How it looks on the ball field will tell us a lot very early on.

Oh well, it is what it is and I'm sure I'll get use to it.

:posterwsu: :posterwsu: ( Guess I shouldn't be using this emoticon)

I didn't see anyone else jumping up & down with joy over the new logo, and I'll join that group!. The new logo looks like a computer generated version created with a low budget computer art program. I'm sure there were better uses for the money they spent for this new logo?

I’ll learn to like it… you’ll learn to like it. We seriously needed an update after the last attempt went down in flames. The current WSU logo has served the university well, however it’s grown ‘old and tired’. IMO, this is a satisfactory and simple upgrade that will serve us well for the future. I’m just a marketing guy, what the heck do I know?

Rather than a complete redesign (like the logo debacle under Schaus) it looks like they just went with an updated, modernized version of the current athletics wheat logo.

The more I look at it the more I like it.

                        Interesting:

From the WSU Logo Project site.

"Many people don’t like the Centennial Logo, calling it old, boring, and unexciting."

"People generally favor the Centennial Logo over the Athletics Wheat Logo three to one."

Yet, the new logo platform is basically the Athletics Wheat Logo. Since they have also said that the school's colors are still black and yellow, it will be interesting to see how well the "not gold yellow" color blends with the true yellow colors the University currently uses on various things. Maybe they'll change the official colors to black and not gold yellow.

Count me in as not liking it. I like the one we have in place now. And I liked it on center court as opposed to the mascot. Look at it like this, when the Dallas cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers changed there logo, what did it do for them? Oh, that's right, they haven't changed!

Marge: The plant called and said that if you don't come in tomorrow, don't bother coming in Monday.
                          Homer: WOOHOO! Four day weekend.
