Let me start by saying I believe Hamilton is going to be one good Shocker. I really liked what I saw in an AAU game or two of his last summer. He is Mr. Hustle, always runs the floor, great on inside defense and is comfortable around the basket. Oh yes, he can dunk it. But I'll believe it when I see it about him having an outside shot.

All the reports leave little doubt that he is more Valley ready than what we expected. So I think his chances of not be urged to redshirt are up to around 50%. There are a lot of others for him to beat out.

This time I think the transfer from another D-1 will work out for us. With Blair's experience I don't see Jerome taking his minutes. And then there are Ellis and Coy, who has already used his redshirt. I was hopeful Coy could be a SF but Marshall's last interview dashed my hopes.

I saw Hamilton play on one occasion.

On that day, he put up a lot of 3s, during the shoot around and pick-up play.

While I did not keep written stats, I will bet a dollar to a donut that he shot over 35%. On that singular day, it was blue skies and sunny.

I might add that I saw Ricardson on that day and he could not throw the ball in the ocean from 3. He fired up a lot of 3s and hit exactly one.

So, we have reports that Hamilton can't shoot from outside and Richardson reminds many of Steve Kerr.

      Go figger.

Regardless, we will know the answer pretty soon.

I think an RS is a good idea for JH. The only issue I see is that if Blair is what we all think/hope he is, and if Ellis and Stutz progress and reach their potential, then where does that leave JH after a year of red-shirting? In Jerome's 2nd freshman year (10-11, when he would play) you have a theoretical front court line-up of centers; Durley, Stutz, EO and power forwards; Blair, Ellis, Coy, and Hamilton.

That means that after a year of not playing competitively, Hamilton could spend the next season buried 7 deep on the bench. This problem of too much talent in the post should be a fun deveopment over the next three years!

But it might be better to be buried on the bench for one year instead of two. After Durley and Blair graduate it would be nice to have 3 full years left for Hamilton to play.

Isn't it wonderful that we have, in just a very few years, gone from worrying about fielding a respectable five man team to who is going to possibly redshirt because the potential talent of our scholarship players is so high.

Hmmmm. I don't think I will lose any sleep over this one. And I hope GM doesn't either.

Or it could mean that Hamilton starts and Ellis and/or Coy spend the season buried 7 deep on the bench. I'd like to see Hamilton starting because that would mean he beat out players we thought were better.

It's amazing how many best case scenarios present themselves in the offseason. What are the odds of Stutz progressing like everyone hopes, Blair being the real deal, Ellis moving beyong the "P" word, and Coy being D-1 ready as a mid-season transfer during his freshman year.

Any math majors who know the formula for conditional probabilities? I guess these would all be independent events, in which case you would multiply each % against one another. I'll take a shot.

                Stutz - 50%
                Blair - 50%
                Ellis - 25%
                Coy - 10%

                .5 x .5 x .25 x .1 = 0.63%

                Check my math. ;-)

I might question your assumption of independence; maybe Blair coming on pushes Stutz to work harder and perhaps Coy does the same for Ellis. I think Coy should be 60% rather than 10% (but what do I know?).

So, what you're saying is that there IS a chance.

I don't know about Coy. I've been leaning a lot closer to the 10% chance rather than 60% lately. I would feel better if he was playing basketball rather than baseball and if coach pegged him for the 3 spot. Saying he is a PF tells me he doesn't have the foot speed to play out on the perimeter.

When he was recruited to ASU they were planning on him being a SG! Everybody else had him at the 3. To help revive spirits about Johnny I watched his video again. It looked like his HS team even started him out on the outside much of the time. What a pretty outside shot! And he sure did drive to the bucket nicely.

I wouldn't say Larry Bird - he was an incredible passer and had court vision like no other. Maybe a more athletic version of Rob Kampman or a Kyle Wilson type. I'll take either of those.

I think that is a good comparison. A lot will depend on how he adjusts to playing against guys who are as big and perhaps stronger than him and who are as, if nor more, athletic. Looks like he has a real good feel for the game and his movements are very fluid and natural. I think he will prove to be a very good MVC player.

It has been said, and by HCGM, that Richardson has a good shot, but noone has said he was shooting good, so will he be like AE his first year, and not have his shot fall through the net?

WSU could really benefit from having a player with a good pull up jumper from the 10 to 18 foot range. And I haven't seen anything more about Mrs. HCGM working with the players on free throws.
