But you have to look at the real reason behind KU's obsession with WSU. It's been said and it's true, KU would have undoubtedly beaten us probably 18 out of the last 20 years, similar to what they have done to KSU. What KU and their almighty regents have nightmares about though is the recognition WSU would gain by beating them in basketball. And WSU recognition is the one thing that they are most frightened of.

And why? Because WSU is the sleeping giant in Kansas sports. We are the largest city, with the largest population and certainly the city and the university, if they can ever get their acts together, will someday not only surpass KU in size, but very likely in both athletics and academics. And that in my humble opinion, is what KU is scared of.

Sure, every 15 to 20 years, the Shockers have spurted forth for a few years and achieved success. But we never had and apparently don't today, a 5, 10, or 15 year plan putting forth the goals that this university needs to acheive in these areas.

We have relied on our one AD and one BB coach and when one or more of them departs for greener pastures, we start all over again from stratch. Surely, we can do better this.
I think that it is a very fair statement that KBoR do what they can to hold WSU back, and I think the WSU president goes along to get along.
WSU can be much much more to the entire state and region. It should currently be similar to a University of Louisville, or even a Pitt. Perhaps the new AD Sexton will be different when it comes to athletics, but I have yet to hear or read of any real 5/10/15 year plan for what his vision is for WSU. To me the biggest obstacle to holding WSU back is WSU and visionary leadership who refuse to take a backseat to anyone in the state.

Re KU, whether people want to admit it or not, KU is the bluebloods of college basketball. KU has the history, tradition, and success. It's a wonderful school, great campus, and fantastic traditons. That however, takes nothing away from WSU which has its own fantastic campus, great fans, strong academics, and solid traditons in basketball and baseball. For athletics, only WSU and the MoVal can hold back the Shox.

I've written this before. The KBoR should focus their attention and money on KU and WSU which hold the keys to the future for the State of Kansas.

We can start by supporting all the teams that are successful. Baseball, volleyball, tennis, golf, basketball, etc.

WTF? KU obsession with WSU? I'd wager to say that the majority of KU fans outside of Wichita don't even know WSU is a division I basketball school. Reasonably knowledgeable KU fans mostly respect WSU but in most years they really don't have any reason to pay much attention. As others have said they would only meet in the tournament and that is extremely unlikely.

My guess would be this troll isn't even a KU fan though. Trolls tend not to believe in anything.

Chris, I have to respectfully disagree with the majority of what you wrote.
KU fans follow basketball and have a strong historical knowledge of KU basketball. They are well aware of the Sweet 16 matchup in New Orleans, and are aware of WSU's Sweet 16 run a few years ago. Thus, they know WSU is Div I, are aware of the tough environment of Koch Arena, and in fact generally pull for WSU.
Additionally, WSU's future success in basketball will make it very likely that KU and WSU meet in the tournament.

I do agree wtih you that the troll is not a KU fan.

You obviously give a lot more credit to most fans than I do (KU or otherwise) :)

Chris, my comment concerning KU's obsession with WSU is solely directed at the powers at KU, the regents, and has little to do with KU fans.

Their old boy network has for over half a century done everything in their power to treat us like a Cinderella.

Present and past regents would gag or turn over in their moldy graves if WSU ever achieved BCS status.

                mystery

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_12_Conference .... Hmmm, look who is rockin out the big fat goose egg for national championships. Can anybody explain to me why KSU is adored by the Regents again?? I mean, KU is obviously their prize, but why does KSU get treated so much better than WSU by the regents?

I thought you only patrol the itty, bitty, insignificant WSU boards during gamenights for the whole online audio stuff. What gives?

If KU fans didn't care about WSU, they wouldn't be starting topics about matchups with the two on "lowly" WSU boards... and then other KU posters wouldn't be blindly trying to defend them.

Nobody cares about KU here. The only time we care is if when they are playing a "B" team on the basketball court.

Thanks for backtracking on your own point though.

Ahhh... this thread brings back such fond memories for me of being able to attend that national championship game.

And by fond memories, I don't mean the final scoreboard.

I mean the joy of purchasing my royal blue, Cutter and Buck, Memphis Tigers golf shirt on the way to the Alamodome.

                            :D

Why can't I just be interested in WSU basketball? I live in Wichita and have a lot to do with them because of the streaming. Would I have come here in the first place without the streaming? Probably not but once I did I've stuck around. Are you saying I'm not welcome?

There hasn't been much traffic here this summer so I haven't been by much but mainly I'm just jonesin' for basketball season to start.

Nothing I said should was in any way a defense of anything the original poster said. If you actually took the time to read what I posted you'll see my only comment on the original poster was that I doubted they were a KU fan. Just a loser troll who probably didn't care one way or the other.

Hi Chris. You're welcome here but don't come in with a thin skin. I was registered on KU & KSU sites and got banned from both for much less than your comments here. If you don't want to visit, then don't. If you do, don't take criticism seriously; it's only a sports board.
