Gregg is an honorable man, and he honors his commitments. I think Gregg Marshall is 110% committed to the program and his players. He is also a very personable coach, which is good for recruiting and good for the fans.

We, as fans, know we are getting Gregg's very best shot as a coach. :good: :good:

This is just a knock on contracts that today are rather meaningless. It has nothing to do with GM or any past Shocker coach.

Why doesn't the NCAA follow the same policy for coaches as they do for Div 1 players transfering to other Div 1 schools?

Change schools before the end of your contract and you sit out a year. Simple, straightforward, and a pucker factor.

I see where you are going, but it is not practicle or possible in anyway shape or form.

All I want WSU to do is be more forceful in their buyouts....this is a great job in a great city with all the might and money behind them.

If you want to go somewhere else, that's fine, but expect to pay dearly. I want our coach to be comfortable and have security, but it should work both ways. $200,000.....that's peanuts.

It should be about $5,000,000 the first year and then drop after that but never less than $1,000,000. That's about what it's going to cost to rebuild, imho, at minimum.

Another problem with this is what can happen with a coach like Huggins. he sat out a year, and was not bound by the NCAA restrictions of phone calls, contact limits, etc, and was on the horn all the time with Walker and Beasley. This would open a whole other can of worms.

I would add a clause, the team that hires a coach away from WSU that is still under contract must play at CKA for 3 straight seasons.

Not bad, but probably not enforceable.

How can a coach, who is not an employee or agent of university X, bind university X to future actions?

Maybe the coach can do it as a condition of his new employment with university X, but it seems shaky to me.

We have plenty of lawyers on this fine forum. I am sure they will have the answer(s).

Not only what you brought up, but any WSU coach HIRED away from us would be going to a BCS school and I would imagine the timing of any such hire would be at the end of the seaon. Both WSU and the BCS program would, in all likelihood, have their OOC schedules pretty much done for a couple of years. Not much room to try to schedule a game between two schools that don't usually play each other -- both schedules would have to have open dates on the same day. I suppose it could work if the "games" started three or four years down the road. Doubt this would ever happen, but who knows.

There was a coach not too long ago that had such a clause in his contract and I believe ended up doing a home and home with his former school.

I'm not bound by those rules (as far as I know) and it hasn't done me any good.
