Marshall's contract extended one year...see release below!
Wichita State University head men’s basketball coach Gregg Marshall has agreed to a one-year contract extension that ensures his employment through April 15, 2015, Director of Athletics Eric Sexton announced today.
“I am extremely pleased to be extending Gregg Marshall’s contract through 2015,” Sexton said. “He has done a tremendous job in leading our men’s basketball program, and continues to direct it toward excellence. He represents Wichita State University and the Wichita community with the highest integrity. The future is bright for Shocker basketball under his leadership.”
Marshall’s first team went 11-20 in 2007-08, and improved to 17-17 in 2008-09 while advancing to postseason play for the first time since 2006, garnering two home games in the College Basketball Invitational. The Shockers, picked ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll, finished in the top tier of the Valley with an 8-10 record, good enough for a fifth-place tie. WSU also won 14 games at home in 2008-09, which tied for the most since 1987. Wichita State defeated three teams that made the NCAA Tournament, including MVC representative UNI along with two teams that advanced to the second round in Cleveland State and Siena.
Marshall, who just completed his second season, had five years remaining on his previous contract from 2007, with the extension ensuring he will be under contract for the next six seasons.
“I think we all saw the progress our young squad made this year,” Marshall said. “It was exciting and gives us a lot of hope for the future. I remain committed to building a championship caliber program here at Wichita State in a first-class manner. I am grateful for the faith our administration has demonstrated through this contract extension.”
