  • Johnny Coy Eligibility

HCGM said on his show tonight that the NCAA has initially ruled that Johnny Coy will not be eligible until second semester next year.

WSU has appealed the decision, but not sure what the prospects of the initial decision be overturned. Personally, I doubt we we win the appeal.

WOW was this expected? I wonder if that happens often..i mean kids like Coy being denied with circumstances similar to his?
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

Ouch. Isn't that just like the NCAA. Meanwhile the center for Bradley gets 6 years. Sigh...

It isn't surprising considering that Coy's dad was in poor health prior to Johnny going to ASU.

well it will be like making a trade in the second half of the season next year then. AJ started playing better again towards the end of the year so im more than comfortable with him there.. and kyles can maybe play some more at the 3

Not wanting to put too much pressure on the young man, but I recall another player out of the past that became eligible at the beginning of the second semester. As I recall, he did rather well. I think his first name was Dave...

Another interesting comment from HCGM at tonights coaches show.....

He commented that he didn't know what they did down at Arizona State but that Johnny was struggling at times realizing how hard they practice and how physical the play is here.

Dave did way beyond our wildest expectations. However, the last semester of his Senior year when we went dancing, he, along with Nate Bowman(I think), were ineligible. That came back to haunt us in the Final 4 against Bill Bradley and company. Thus, does this open the door to a possible Redshirt for Johnny Coy so he gets 4 full years?

What do you think he's on right now?
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

No, he already had his red shirt year.

Yes, I remember how dejected I was when Stallworth's eligibility was up and Nate decided to let his eligibility lapse in the classroom. Oh, what might have been!

I hope it does not come back to bite us with Coy, as well.

In that case, does Johnny lose a semester no matter what?

In that case, Kerry R. should become his best friend all summer long. The College game is not as physical as the NBA, but it is not far from it.

The rules have changed since Stallworth. Assuming the NCAA doesn't reverse the decision, Coy will play 2nd semester next year and three ful years after that.
